I spent most of yesterday working on the game. I tested it on real hardware. It was a case of the platforms getting too close to each other, causing garbled characters. On the Odyssey 2, if characters overlap, you get that. So I tried to fix it by making it so if the y position is too close, move it up more. I went to bed with a broken game. I woke up, and started anew. I had the bright idea of putting a noise in so I would know my code would be working. I thought I had it, but I went to test
I'd been working on this for a few hours earlier this morning. It's a Doodle Jump game for the Odyssey 2. The only trouble is, I had to make it so it always scrolls down since I couldn't figure out how to make it stop and be nice like it is supposed to. I got disgusted with the way it wasn't working, so a total rewrite was in order. Once I got that mostly done, I tried to make it so it stops, but I just couldn't figure out how to. I think the problem is I need to figure out the y position of eac
I think I may have found my next project after GoSub. It's a board game, tentatively called "The Bored Game." See, because you play it when you're bored. Right now, this is pretty low on the priority scale, but will pick up once GoSub is finished, like I said in yesterday's blog, will be in the summer (I hope.) Right now it's very buggy (like it thinks 5+3 is 9), but this is just after the second day and a few hours coding this thing. To roll, the dice, all the player has to do is press fire, an
I started a Blazers fansite, which you can view here. It's called "The Blazers Suck!" because, well, they do. I might have to change the title of it next season when Oden comes in, though. If the Blazers actually make the playoffs next year, I'll change the title of it to "The Blazers Don't Suck." I promise. Well, anyway, how could you not call a team sucky after losing to the second-worst team in the NBA? That's right, folks. The Blazers lost to Seattle last night. Ugh. What's even more infuria
OK. So here's the deal. For the past six months or so, I've been working on writing a movie script. I don't really know why. I had this good idea for a movie and so I wanted to see if I could write a full-length feature film on my idea. I think I'm about half way done. I'm on page 47. It's called "Rabbit Turds In My Oatmeal." Here's a brief synopsis. Two cops get a call about a gun-wielding maniac, go over, maniac shoots and kills cop Scott, leaving his partner Frank partner-less. Frank goes hom
Well, the floors in the kitchen and entryway are almost done. The floor in the master bedroom is replaced, and so is the one in the hall bathroom, but the hall bathroom needs a new light fixture. I don't see how touching the light switch can shock me, but I'm not going to touch it anyway. Mom was here all day, and she went and got me Burger King while the guys were out for lunch. Apparently, it was much hotter than they said it was going to be, I'm sitting here with the fan on. I was going to wa
Well, after they said they would return Tuesday, they decided to come back today. Since they're going to replace the carpets in the bathrooms and the kitchen, they tore it out. There was linoleum under it, so they got rid of that, too. These are different people from last time, and I like them because they're getting ready to leave right now instead of after 6pm. They'll come back tomorrow between 7-7:30am. I also got a whole bunch of games in the mail today. Atari 2600 and Intellivision games.
They're still here, painting away. They've painted the den, worked on my bathroom, and right now they're painting the kitchen. I guess they're fine with leaving at 6pm. This time, though, they were an hour late getting here. They arrived at 10am instead of 9am. I woke up at 6am and went back to sleep at 7:30 and didn't get up until near 9am. I worked a lot on "Tetris 2600", and while i was able to trim the code a lot, i still haven't come up with a solution to my problem. Take a look in the bB f
Well, day 5 came and went. They got here at about 9 this morning and left at around 6. I don't know why they don't leave earlier (I'd sure like them to). They painted the den and worked some more on my bathroom. My bathroom is still a mess. Then at 4, mom came home. She had bought me the new Dream Theater album (the deluxe, 3-cd version). It was originally $26.99 but was on sale for some reason for only $19.99. My favorite song is "The Count of Tuscany" (19:16), the longest track on it. It has i
OK, this is beginning to suck. Mom woke me up when she left for work at 6am. They were an hour late (big surprise), coming in at 9am. They painted and painted, and right now, they are still painting, after taking a 90-minute lunch break 4 hours ago. In the beginning, they said that they'd start cleaning up at 4 and leave at 4:30. It's 5 and they're still here working and haven't even started cleaning up yet. I WANT THEM GONE, DAMMIT! The stupid dog got in the paint and even managed to get his pa
They spent the day texturing my bathroom (now I can't use it, I have to use mom's) and painted most of the walls. We went to the used game store on Lancaster and I got Donkey Kong and Zelda II for my small but growing Classic NES Series GBA game collection. There was a Zelda II marked $14.99 and one marked $9.99. The guy didn't notice so I got the $9.99 one. (saved $5!) Oh, and I'm going to buy some pogs. And I want yours (that is, if you didn't throw them out. Hopefully, with all these packrats
The second day of our remodeling-type thing. They worked on the ceiling that was caving in kind of in the den, and took the wallpaper off the kitchen and my bathroom, and then they left without telling me. A few hours later, just before Mom got home and we were going to go somewhere, a guy came back, and he began working on painting the master bedroom ceiling. So, we took the dog and went to the game store, where I decided to start a complete collection of "Classic NES Series" GBA games. Today I
Well, the dog didn't stay in the garage. He didn't bark as much as I thought he would, and he completely shut up very quickly so I let him stay in my room with me while they were painting the ceiling. I don't know what they're planning to do tomorrow, though. To keep busy, I'm making a shrine for Mario Kart 64 and I also began working on my Tetris game again. There were a few bugs in the last version I released (version 11) that I fixed in a version 12 I'll upload tomorrow morning @ a little bit
Tomorrow's the big day. Mom's hired some people to paint the walls and ceiling, strip the wallpaper off, and remove the carpet in the bathrooms and kitchen. The work starts tomorrow and they said that they'll be working for the next 8 days. This is going to be hard on me, as well as the dog (the dog will have to stay in the garage. He's going to bark his head off.) They're supposed to be coming at 9am to start the massive undertaking. Mom says this needs to be done, while I personally don't care
I'm 3/4 of the way to having 100 NES games. Well, two of them only work part of the time. And both were made by Data East. "Al Unser Jr. Turbo Racing", "Cybernoid", "Double Dribble", "Kickle Cubicle", "T&C Surf Designs" and "Wacky Races" were the lucky 6 to get the total up to 75. As for 2600 games, still no new ones, and the ones were there I already had. Wish I had a Coleco Adam, there's like 6 games for it. Why? Who didn't care to have 6 Coleco Adam games. Why didn't they just sell the s
The top 3 puzzle games for the NES (because there aren't that many.)
Tetris 2 - In my opinion, better than Dr. Mario. It has more block shapes than just one pill.
Puzznic - A rare and underrated puzzle game with about 100 fixed puzzles involving moving blocks and matching them up by color and making them disappear.
Pipe Dream - Make pipes so the ooze can ooze out in them instead of getting the board all messy.
Well, there you have it. What's your favorite NES puzzle games? I'd lo
With only one hole left to design, I thought I might as well code the end. Since I had a whole bunch of spare room, I added an ending screen which displays your final score. I could even add an ending song if I wanted to. By the way, a final score of one is impossible. I just did that because I started the game on hole 9 for testing. I tried to design a ninth hole, but it ended up too similar to hole #5 so I threw it out and will try again. The ninth hole in there now is a test hole. At t
Well, the CD (finally) came in the mail. See that's the thing about some eBay companies: they're so big they take a long time to ship packages out I guess. I bought this on the 4th and I just now got it. I left the usual five-star feedback even though they deserved four on the delivery time. I'm listening to the aforementioned song now. It's kinda boring. I guess good background music in case I'm working on the computer, I wouldn't recommend it for just listening to and nothing else. There's not
My mom has like an almost complete collection of Beach Boys records. She bought them all when she was a kid. They're all tucked away in the pantry. She was watching something about Charles Manson and they mentioned Dennis Wilson and she wanted to look at 20/20, so I went and got it for her. She also has something like a mini-Beatles magazine from 1964 that I don't know where she got it from. She only has Meet the Beatles, but she likes the Beach Boys. And it's growing on me, too: especially thei
When I was a kid, I saw this interesting book called a "bathroom reader" that was made by "Uncle John." OK, well not a kid, more like an adolescent. So I bought it. And found it utterly fascinating, mixing reference with humor, the perfect reading material, not just for in the bathroom, either, this saying a guy who poops a lot. I was 17 when I attempted making my own bathroom reader. Being just one person, I had made a 36-page one in 2000. A second one followed in 2001, and then darkness. I was
I got bored, so I decided to work on a cartridge label for Nosehair!
How I originally drew it was having the beginning of the nosehair connect with the n. Then I thought it looked a lot like the word "hosehair" so I changed it. There is even a blank spot down at the lower left hand corner for a logo of some sort, for a company that decides to publish it. Or perhaps I am thinking too far ahead here...
It became clear that odd things are happening with AUDx0. So I switched t
Good. The ants now have a place to roam around in the video game I'm making for the Jaguar. This is the in-game screen: You'll notice I added a score in. This took a few hours to do. Same with trying to put in the table. What I wanted was the whole table top, but my stupid computer kept zooming into the picture, and with no way to make it stop, I decided to give up and just let this be it. Also, I am wanting a title screen song. I want a recording of someone besides me saying the word "ants." I
Perhaps I have been working on the Ants game for the Jaguar a little too hard. This morning, there were real ants on the real kitchen counter. I was asleep at the time. Mom put out Terro traps like she always does, while I want a permanent solution and have them be gone forever. Oh well. AtariAge user "omf" has been trying to help me understand Jaguar programming. I want to make a Jaguar homebrew cartridge (NOT A C.D.) so people could actually buy a cartridge and actually play the non-CD games f
...and a bit earlier than previous years. I don't recall seeing this many ants in my house in mid-February, and by "this many," I mean I've seen about 10 so far in the last few days. I'm not going to bore you with the horror stories of having a bunch of ants in my house, but it sure is annoying to have to squish them all. Raid helps to kill them now, but they just keep coming back. But some woman down the street has it much worse than us. She called Orkin but they didn't seem to help, so it'd be
Went to the store today and bought three PSX games: Austin Powers Pinball, Billiards, and Crash Team Racing. I had originally wanted Flintstones Bowling, but the guy said the disc was in bad shape, which makes me wonder why it was even in the store to begin with! I had no idea that PSX games are still so expensive 5 years after they discontinued the machine. Well, I guess it wasn't so bad as opposed to buying over the internet if you factor in the cost of shipping. Funny thing is, I forgot I bou
