Death to the Celery's Contraption!

So I've been busy adding bombs to the Celery game. If the contraption you control crashes into the bomb, the game ends. I want the voice to say "Ouch!" and have an explosion before it goes to the title screen, but it isn't liking me again. And I've been going through playing my Playstation games. I got through about A. I still need to finish A. Although I only have 41 games, I have about 10 that begin with A-C. So I'm thinking "The 50-foot-tall Stalk of Celery" is kind of long, so long that I co

Fat Tuesday

So when I got home from my sister's house to celebrate Christmas, I decided that I wanted to work on Fatso 2 for the Odyssey 2 again. Stuffing your face full of Chex Mix makes you think of your game you made if you made a game about eating junk food. So after a few tries, I had it down good adding another random junk food item on the screen. I also made two of them move at a randomly chosen speed. I also made it so that the faster the food is when you eat it, the more points you get. But there w

Elevator Events: Day 3

So one of the things got crossed off my to do list: Make the elevators start at random y positions. But one thing is the same: They all start moving down. I have an idea on how to change it but I don't know how. What I want to do is check the rightmost bit and if it's a 1 (odd number), start moving up and if it's a 0 (even) start moving down. But I don't know how to check certain bits. e5frog and I worked on the random y position problem. We got it working good. But even after making three games

Two letter titles part II

Continuing with this theme, I was looking 'round the 'net and found that Peter Gabriel has not one, not two, but three albums with two letter titles: Us, Up, and So. As I'm writing this, I'm listening to the Presidents of the United States of America's II album, so there's at least 2 albums named "II" and "Up." Question: Did U2 release a self-titled album? Now next time I go downtown I have to look for three Peter Gabriel albums! Right now I have three 2-letter titled albums: II (PUSA, Boyz II M

Snood

The dictionary defines "snood" as a net or fabric cap for the hair. That being said, it has nothing to do with snoods. I'm guessing they picked Snood as the title of the game because they thought it was a nonsense word. Anyway, what Snood is is a Bust-a-Move (or Puzzle Bobble) clone. In case you don't know what Bust-A-Move is, it's a puzzle game where you shoot colored bubbles from the bottom of the screen up to the top. If you match three or more of the same color, they disappear and points are

TNN Motorsports for Dreamcast.

So I get this game. It kept telling me once I put it in that game data won't be saved because I need at least 9 blocks of data. I was wondering why it kept giving the message when I had a whole bunch of room on my VMU. So after trying a whole bunch of various VMUs I had, I went ahead and started the game anyway. I was able to enter my name and create a file. Since I never learned how to drive, I don't know whether to choose automatic or the other one. I guess next time I should choose automatic

Cyclops

It was originally going to be a monster, and it still says "monster" in the code, but when I got to designing it, I only had room for one eye, so it became a cyclops. I worked last night trying to improve Oranges for the Game Gear to make it look better, but I'm just going to stick with what I had. And then I went to sleep, had a dream about poop coming out of the sink and our plumbing not working. Woke up and worked on the lemon game which is where cyclopses reside. Level 1, which is where Fr

Bevious

Inspired by Dragnerok X's Combat DX, I got to playing around with making a stick twirl. Then, I thought, what good use can come out of this? Then I got to thinking about Xevious for some reason (maybe because of the crosshairs). So that's when I decided to make Bevious, the B standing for Batari Basic. Since I've found Mr. Frog too challenging, I've decided to give up on it for now and start making this game. While you can start the game by pressing the fire button right away, I encourage you to

Back to waffles.

So I got in the mood to work on the waffle project again. So I did that this afternoon. This afternoon because I slept all morning. I went to bed at 11pm and didn't get up until 1pm. And I fell. I thought I was going to move forward when entering my room, but apparently I wasn't, didn't realize it, and fell and made a hideous sound. Scraped my right arm too. I am anticipating having my butt hurt tomorrow. It was like a force field, or perhaps the long handle of the door knob getting into my clot

Jaguar Games Rescue

So I saw a boxed copy of Checkered Flag (for the Jaguar) at the game store with a sticker on it that said $10. I bought it anyway. But here's the thing: The sticker had been "conveniently" covering up the part of the box where some idiot had wrote "10.00". So I tried Goo Gone when I got home, it mostly did the job, but the box is somewhat discolored now. Luckily I already have another boxed copy of the game. The manual is in great shape, (which is surprising that nobody wrote on it, too ) but th

Lemons rising from the grave

In March I was making a series of short 11 minute films, a TV show except it's not airing anywhere, called "My History Teacher Ate Lemons." I had about three episodes done when my computer died. All I had backed up on an SD card were videos for the show. Well, last night, I went to work making new episodes with what I had. I also filmed some new stuff. I am back to where I was before, with three episodes completed. I decided to back them up on a disc, but the disc will only be accessible if I ha

Todd Rundgren

Does anyone have any of this guy's music? If so, what's it like? I've been reading the Long Song List again and I came upon this guy. I googled him and Wikipedia says in the 70s, one of his compositions actually had to be sped up a little to fit on one side of a record! "A Treatise on Cosmic Fire" ended up being 'reduced' to 35:19, and a warning on the label back then says that the recording quality had diminished a little because of vinyl technology. Wikipedia says that the CD is fine, and alon

DS thoughts

First off, I am extremely disappointed to hear about the 3DS. You'd think Nintendo would be smart enough NOT to release a system like this. But I guess all their marketing people are just trying to cash in on the 3D TV/movie craze. Also, this will probably spell the doom of the original DS, which I don't know why they would want to kill off because it has been EXTREMELY successful. But as much as I hate to admit it, all good things must come to an end, but I wished it wouldn't end like this: Nin

New Odyssey 2 project

The cat thing wasn't going anywhere, so I decided to try another project. First I needed an idea. I looked at all the 2k games for the Atari 2600. I stopped at Kaboom!. I thought "Since Alien Greed 5 is kind of like Kaboom!, why not port the original Kaboom to the Odyssey 2?" So I worked for a few hours and got this: The guy moves left and right, but doesn't drop bombs yet. And since Activision is still a game company and probably still holds rights to Kaboom!, I am going to call the game "Dr

The first card.

So I downloaded the website's PSD file. I made it all the sizes it needed to be. Yet the card I designed seems to be larger than what is needed. So I saved the template as a .png file, and it too was larger than it was supposed to be, even though all the sizes I put in the original card were the same as the template file I had downloaded. So I'm trying to figure out how to use Photoshop, I guess. Either that or the company's template is useless. Or I'm just not doing it right. This picture is su

Roulette

So I spent a few hours making my roulette Virtual Boy game playable. It works now. It isn't very exciting, but it works. You only get one wager for each wheel spin, though. You move the gambling chip like a cursor over the wager you want to make. Then press Start. A number and either "WIN" or "LOSE" will show up depending on the wager you made. Later on in the development, I will add a bank roll tally so you can keep track of how much you win (or lose). I just made roulette because aside from v

Shoot.

I have an idea for a light gun game for the 2600. 2 were ever made, and only 1 was released (Sentinel). I want to make #3. I spent a couple hours fiddling around with a title screen, trying to make it just right. It's a game where you shoot flies. I can make this 4k if I need it to be. I don't really care much about file size, I just want to make a working gun game for the 2600. It does nothing at this point, the score increases by 1 every frame and the life counter decreases by 1 eve

A moving story about Billy.

I thought that the title screen didn't look very good with the copyright notice right under Billy. So I decided to change the title screen. I changed the title so it was a smaller font size. I think this looks way better than it did. Thoughts? I've also been working on this game for most of my waking hours again for the third straight day or so. And it is really hot in my room. Yesterday it was 77 degrees in my city. It's hopefully supposed to cool down. So now in the code I have a 6-digit sco

George

The result of a dream I had and about 7 hours of trying to get it on to the Atari 2600. I don't know what to do with this, so I am putting it here. What do you think? George has just crash-landed on the planet Xarksljfjsdhgjhd. You know the planet, the one where the toxic grass grows. And the ones with incredibly winding paths. This is by far the most trouble I've ever had with anything 2600 Basic related. And I need to make all the future playfields in a really awkward way (but

2600tris

Well, apparently, the last time I worked on this I quit because it was doing stupid things. I had discovered that if you choose the 2 player option, sometimes the whole board will disappear. I discovered the cause of that and (I think) I fixed it. In this latest version I haven't uploaded yet, I added a "thud" sound to the pieces once they hit bottom and stick. You can download that version here. I have decided that since the way I programmed the pieces to fall if you get a line, it is kind of i

It's the least wonderful time of the year...

Well, tomorrow is my least favorite day. The dreaded April Fool's Day is tomorrow. People everywhere making idiots of themselves in an attempt to fool people. It is they who are the fools. I got Giana Sisters DS at the store for $24. It's probably what I would have paid on the internet if you factor in shipping. I don't know why, but sites like the Goat Store tend to exaggerate the shipping prices. Does it really cost about $6 to mail two Odyssey 2 games? Haven't had a chance to play it yet. Thi

I feel really zany. Must be all that Monty Python I've been watching lately. I dug up my old Monty Python CD I bought when I was a kid (yes, I've been watching Monty Python since I was a kid back when it aired on Comedy Central. Then A&E. Now it's nowhere, so I bought the entire series on DVD, which, oddly enough, is made by A&E. Figure that one out.) That and Frank Zappa. "Peaches En Regalia" is a cool song. Right now I'm listening to "The Gumbo Variations." Anyway, I've discovered that

My first YouTube poop

Only it's not on YouTube because I doubt it would stay up for very long, what with all the "copyrighted materials". Pfft. I doubt MGM would really care. Anyway, I was looking through old tapes and I found "The Wizard of Oz." After the ending of that was the ending of "Amityville II." So I wondered, "What would happen if I merged them together into one movie ending?" This is the result. At first the stupid video player would only play 3/4 of it. Then I figured out why. Yahoo's stupid way of uploa

The weakness of Alien Crush

So I was playing Alien Crush. I got good enough to be listed on the high score table. So I went to go get my camera and the brief second it displayed it, it left! And gave me no time to enter my name! So I had to wait until the demo was over, TWICE, until the exact second it displayed the high score (which I never got to enter my initials on!) I did it at the right time so I can record my highest score. And while it won't save it on the HUcard, it will live on...until I lose the memory card the

Beam Me Up!

It's been decided that the upmonsters are actually aliens, and they're trying to get back to their UFO. But before they do, they have to reach it, which is obscured by clouds that the upmonsters have to jump on, farther up and up until they get to it. Then, once they get close enough, the UFO's beam pulls them up inside, like this: And then a new level starts with an all-new upmonster. So that's what I've been doing all day: Working on this game, adding tons of stuff to it. I'm surprised I
