Someday I hope to have a complete 32X game collection. With there only being a few dozen titles, it will probably take me not very long, or at least not nearly as long as it has to amass my 320 2600 titles. So far I have 7. Not very many reasons to plug two things in. I've got Doom and Knuckles and the rest aren't very interesting. Why is it that sports titles are so common? Maybe game developers should take a hint and stop making them if hardly anyone plays them. I mean, I like NBA Jam, but I'm
The first Monday in September is Labor Day here in the U.S. That means everything's closed: Government offices, schools, post office, garbage pickup. But the malls are still open. And that's one thing I'm sick of: Not getting mail on Labor Day. I mean, really. The letter carriers get Columbus Day off, but the rest of the government doesn't. And Labor Day is a stupid idea to begin with. Let's celebrate work by staying home from it! There's an old Garfield comic strip with the poem "Labor Day, Shm
I certainly never knew it existed. I forget the exact title of the game, but I saw it at GameStop. I didn't buy it, though. It has something to do with Heathcliff the cartoon cat. Yes, I was astonished as you. Kind of like the Gumby game they made for the GBA. Did they think that they would sell a ton of copies of a game about a cat that isn't Garfield? Maybe I should go back and buy it. Maybe it will become as rare as Intelligent Qube for the PSX or something. Has anyone else seen this game?
What I had intended to do with this project is re-record songs I've already composed. What I've done instead is compose new ones. Here's how my creative process goes sometimes.
#1 - think of a phrase. In this case I wrote down "breakfast in New Zealand."
#2 - write the melody and figure out the notes. This part was especially hard with this song. You want to make sure you don't already compose something that's already done (like George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord"...) and want to make sure that
If you paid close attention to my signature, you'll notice that I make a daily comic. It's called "47 Meatballs", and it's very much like The Far Side (now I know how Gary Larson felt in 1994 in a fraction of the time!) Well, anyway, here's a sneak preview of the comic that is going to be posted on June 13. I am able to do this because I do them about a month in advance. Every week or so, I think up of 6 gags. It's hard work, but I've been doing this since late 2009. This one I'm about to show y
I guess I have enough faith my computer will hold up. I've decided to write a four-hour-long song (or ":opera", and I use the term loosely). The idea is to use three whole CDs, which can hold 1 1/3 hours of music, which comes out to four hours. The title is "Stephen A. Quanger and the Huge Coat Hanger." It starts with an instrumental piece then it switches to a weird noise for a few minutes, then it switches to the first "song" I actually composed instead of improvised. It's called "I Am Normal.
Out of all the stuff I bought from the Marketplace forum here (and that's a lot of stuff), one of the things I have enjoyed the most is the N-Gage. Now I enjoy collecting for the system, and with 56 games only, I still think it will take a while because I haven't found a normal boxed copy of Mile High Pinball on eBay yet, and sadly, that's one of the games I'm looking forward to most since I love pinball video games. Anyway, just got 3 N-Gage games in the mail which ups my small yet growing coll
So I was composing music today. The first piece for the GoSub title screen music was good, but, as someone else noted, didn't really fit the theme of the game. So I went to work again. The second attempt is what's up on the GoSub page now. I liked the bass part from the first song (C,G,A,E), so I kept it in there. I had a little trouble coding A sharp, though. I thought it would be A#5, but in fact it's A5#, which looks really awkward to me. But no sharps are used in the second song I composed.
So I wrote a program for the ABBUC 2015 10-liner competition. I did this last year, and I somehow managed to get last year's entry onto a disk. But HOW? I forgot how! So now I have this ten lines of code just sitting there in an Atari 8 bit state file. I used Atari800WinPLus 4.0, where I typed it up and tested it and retyped it up and tested it and so on until I got it the way I wanted to. (Well, mostly. I wanted a sound for the game over, but the stupid thing wouldn't cooperate. Even when I put
I've been seeing the number 47 a lot more lately. A few sightings:
- I was flipping through the channels when I saw this religious channel and some guy was talking about Psalm 47.
- The incumbent Polish president lost the Poland election. He only got 47% of the vote.
- The Seattle Zoo's oldest gorilla, named Nina, died at age 47.
- My local Wal-Mart has been selling Hallmark cards for 47 cents.
Also, all 47 republican senators are writing letters to various causes, like one to the Queen
The power company had to switch off the power in order to work on something. It went off at about 8am, when I was asleep. I had to get up at 10:30 anyway because it was hair cut day. After that, I figured since the power was out I should get the PSP out and play it. So I found a sudoku game at the store and bought it. Rainbow Islands Revolution sucks because it's too hard. The sudoku game is good, though, except it took awhile to figure out the controls. If a number is wrong, it should erase aut
Well, I went to the candy store to check out what Giant PEZ dispensers they had. All they had was Captain America, Darth Vader and Hello Kitty. And get this...they were $26! Twenty six dollars for a Giant PEZ dispenser? I guess the cost of everything is going up. Remember when they said that making disc games was cheaper than cartridges? Whatever happened to that? Today's games are $60. Games on cartridge were $60. WRONG. Well, at least I guess I'll have Super Mario Maker as a birthday present t
I think the whole purpose of spamming is to annoy people. I mean, who is dumb enough to actually click on that stuff and then read it and then buy crap that way? I recently got 30 or so spam e-mails in a 24-hour period beginning yesterday. Usually they just trickle in, but now I'm being attacked by them. It's not fair that all you can do to combat it is to delete the e-mails. It's times like this that make me wish technology was never invented. Of course, people would still find ways to annoy ot
My Pokemon Mini has arrived! I put in the AAA battery, set the time and date, but it's all in Japanese, so I don't know how to make the cartridge work! Which screen do I use to make the cartridge turn on? The time and date are on screen 9/9, and screens 1-8 all have Japanese on them. I figure I had better know if the cartridges work before I give eBay feedback, but I can't read Japanese, so I don't know what to do. I looked on Pokemon-Mini.net, but there doesn't seem to be scans of an English in
So I have been working on Insecticide again, even though nobody really seems to notice or care. I added in the final special move, the one for Slaying Mantis. Now comes the real fun part. Wondering what to do next. Should I work on AI? If so, I'd need help on it. Something else? If so, what? I also did some "beautification" modifications, trying to make the intro screen look better. I think I've succeeded in that. (only took a couple of hours...) When I set out to the special moves programming,
Whenever I try to swallow, even if it's just my own saliva, my throat hurts and I forcefully vomit it back up. As a result, I can't eat or drink anything. I tried putting Vicks on my throat, I tried gargling with neem, I tried sticking my finger down my throat, I tried 7-up, I tried water, nothing helps. I have been lately been choking on my own food, this recent thing lasting into its 6th hour, was a result of trying unsuccessfully to eat a veggie burger. Usually whenever I choke on my own food
So I decided to plug in my Odyssey 2 again. This after I discovered I had been working on a version of Explosive Diarrhea for the Odyssey 2. I looked to see what the current version did. I couldn't move. So I looked at the code. The moving the guy code was in there. So I reset my computer and tried it again. It worked. So I did a few updates. The main part of game logic and movement were OK. I added an outhouse for the guy to go to when he's done crossing the minefield. This is how the game look
So I've decided to go ahead and make this after all. It will use the same random number generating code as Walls, which isn't really random number generating, but a timer going really going fast and when the user moves, the timer stops and lands on a variable value corresponding to a y position to place the bombs. Why it seems random is that the timer moves very fast, about 60 or so times per second. The Odyssey 2 does not have brown, so I'm using red instead. The scores will go on the bottom, l
Anyone here ever heard of David Sylvian? Looking for interesting additions to my long song collection, I came across "Approaching Silence." Apparently, he's associated with Mr. Fripp of King Crimson ("Lizard"). Of interest are two songs over 30 minutes: the title track "Approaching Silence" (38:17) and an oddly-titled in my opinion "Beekeeper's Apprentice" (32:38). I've been looking to bolster the upper part of my collection (30 or more minutes, although anything above 15 minutes even counts as
Yes, I can still sell you a copy of Bubba's Buck Blastin for the ActionMax. I do have a little trouble, though: I've run out of DVD cases. Until then, I guess I'll have to use cases from my old movie DVD collection. I ordered some more cases off eBay (you'd be surprised at how many DVD cases there are in the world.) and they're supposed to come on Monday. Looks like the least amount I could get is 25, so that's what I got. This should last me a while. And come Monday, the old movie DVDs without
I don't know what to do with the title screen. Nobody is giving feedback, so I don't know which is better. This is the most current one I have, even more so than the one posted in the game's thread. I know file folders aren't normally green, but seeing as how Intellivision can't display brown, I had no choice. There are only 16 (!) colors it CAN display. I wonder who thought that up. And how a console made two years earlier can display 128 colors. INTYColor is giving me all sorts of problems as
I played Mario's Tennis for a half-hour. I suck at it. In fact, I suck at just about every Virtual Boy game ever made. Which made me think: Why can't someone make an easy game? I can't be the only 31-year-old male that sucks at video games, can I? Galactic Pinball has stupidly high scores that are so unattainable I will never save MY highest score. And now Mario's Tennis made me angry. So I want to make a game for me that I will find enjoyable. And that I can actually beat. So I've made the deci
It had been a very long time since I played my Wii. I got my Wii-U on launch day and haven't played any Wii game since. So I figured I'd get the Wii controller and figure out how the Wii-U works with Wii games. I wanted to play with my uDraw. Found it, it was in the garage. Found all 9 games for it as well (it was with the Wii, which was in the pantry.) I decided to change the batteries, so I undid the Wii's battery cover. One of the batteries had corroded. White stuff oozing out of it. So I too
I haven't been on here much lately. Most of my time now is spent sleeping. I sleep because I'm sleepy most of the time. When I'm awake, I devote my time to video games. I've been working on Insecticide again, I've picked it up again. Added Meleedy-Bug's bite animation. I think I'll speed it up because it looks slow right now. Up next is Superfly's special move. Flies use acid to dissolve their food, I've been told, so this smart fly has decided to use his acid in the fight. I think I've used too
I went without eating. I worked on this thing for about 12 hours, almost straight. You could say I was determined to get this stupid thing done. And now, I present to you TI-Tac-Toe v0.1. It's a tic-tac-toe program for the TI83+/TI84+. You'd probably be thinking, that'd be pretty easy to program and shouldn't take 12 hours. You'd be right, except for I had no idea what I was doing. Attempt after attempt to get the computer to block my moves went awry. I gave up and went to sleep. Then, I woke up
