These United States

I don't think they're going to accept my font. So I made a few changes to it and I'll try submitting it again. I think one of the few things I did wrong was making Alabama too big compared to the rest of the states. This was my bad since I was just getting used to the upgraded software. I had Font Creator 12 but my auto-kerning feature was only available if I paid an extra $99, which I did, and downloaded Font Creator 15, which I also did.   Rhode Island was a tiny little blob. So I ch

I submitted my first font to dafont.com

And it took a lot of unneccessary work. It is a dingbats of the shapes of each state in the United States. I had to straighten each state's shape since it wasn't. Then since I wanted it equal kerning (space between letters), I had to pay $99 and download a new edition of Font Creator. Which is stupid and highway robbery if you ask me. But I suppose if I am going to be making fonts, I guess it's necessary.   I put each state in, using 50 of the 52 letters, with lowercase y and z not use

So I reached a milestone in programming this. I designed level 8 and put it in the game. I compiled it like I usually do and got a strange message saying there was no room for level 7 (and yet level 8 fit? How odd.) I had done it: I had "filled up" 128 KB. Wanting to have 10 levels, I decided to make the game 256 KB. I then compiled it and the message left, but my game was now doubled in size. I had banks 0-15. Banks 9-15 are completely empty. I put "filled up" in quote marks because there's sti

X vs. O - avoid-an-o

I tried to make it look better, but the computer was having none of it. It just gave me a blank screen after I attempted to put in the fancier screen drawing code. I tried moving stuff around. Nope. So I am forced to make it look like this: The next thing I need to do is add a score and some X's to help. The O's are to avoid and the X's are to touch. Imagine a semi-"Fast Food" clone. I wanted to redo Fatso since I have learned so much stuff since then (Fatso! was my first-ever Odyssey

X vs. O - the classic rivalry (part 5)

Decided to quit working on the Game Gear Hamburgers for a bit. This because I had an idea for the fourth and final game in X Vs. O. I had always wanted to redo Fatso! for the Odyssey 2. Now I think I will here. He can walk around. I don't know why I had to spend hours longer than I had anticipated just to get him walking around the screen, but I eventually got it the way I had wanted it to work. I don't want to go back and fix the Shoot-an-O game to put in the x-walking animation. So

Onion rings work on New Year's Eve

I spent all my waking hours yesterday working on something that seemed simple at the time, but turned out to be a big hassle.   What I wanted to do in the boss stage was this: when the last hit was at the boss, have the boss disappear but make any onion rings that were shot from before the boss's death keep going. And when the last onion ring crossed the screen THEN have the level end.   I was so angry because I wasn't understanding why my code, which should have worked, wasn

Burgers on the beach

Started work on level 7 of Flying Hamburgers. With a new milestone: All 8 banks are less than half full except bank 7 has 50.42% free. I made it so even though I put a bank in a certain spot, when it compiles, it can go anywhere if you put "superfree" next to the section title. .section "initialize level 7" superfree So even though the section's code is in bank 5, I have no idea where it is when it compiles because it could be anywhere where it fits. It's like a huge jigsaw puz

Nothing

I haven't been working on anything this morning. I woke up at around 8. Then the leafblowers started coming (it's Wednesday) shortly after so I decided to get up. So I did. If anyone likes crosswords, I have been making small ones recently. You can find them here: Mini crosswords. They're not as small as the 5x5 "mini" ones the New York Times does, but they're big enough to have a few different shapes since they're 8x8 ones.   I'm saddened by the death of Tom Smothers. I was just watch

A not-so-bossier boss

I made the boss easier to defeat by spacing out the onion rings more and making the boss smaller. The boss starts at the center when you first get to it and randomly starts going either up or down then gets into a regular pattern of going up and down. And by making the space between the onion rings larger (they originally were designed to be shot by the milkshake, but since the milkshake got smaller I decided to make the onion rings come from off-screen to the right and travel left),

Working on the boss

I worked on something again. I started work at about 9 a.m. and I just looked at the clock and it's 2:15 p.m.! Was it really necessary to make it be 5 hours to make the burger to be able to miss the boss shake? Really? The boss shake now moves up and down. I thought since it did this in the Virtual Boy version I'd figure I'd take a stab at making it do it here too. So what I did to make this huge milkshake mobile was make it part of the background and then have the background scroll u

Working on onion rings

I love onion rings. Almost as much as I love hamburgers, pizza, and spaghetti. This morning, I decided to attempt to make the onion ring more visible on a real Game Gear. I decided to make it darker and fuller. This helped a lot. I also found during the boss stage there was a certain place on the screen where you could hide and never have the onion rings get you. So then also this morning I fixed that. There is no place to hide anymore. I burned the roof of my mouth a few da

Every possible situation.

I read somewhere a quote about game developers that said something along the lines of to be prepared for every possible situation the player can come up against. I took that to heart. I was working on my Hamburgers Game Gear game for 5 hours because of it. That got me wondering what would happen if a player got hit after shooting the 60th enemy, which would then normally make the burger go up to the boss. I had to fix that. I also had to fix the fact that the enemy's shot should still be on the

bees

I woke up with the beginning of a song. I wanted to go back to sleep, but I didn't want to forget the song, so I woke up and began. It was only six notes I had, but after a few more hours of composing, I have over 7 minutes of an intro to a much longer piece I plan to make called "bees". I'm just posting this little poem here so I don't forget it.   bees floating in the air without a care collect that pollen bees see their little toes landing on a rose

What I've been up to again

Yesterday I had an eye ache. I was pushing through, working on my game anyway until I felt the bloo magoo dance and I ran to the bathroom and threw up all my potato chips and pizza I ate that morning when my eye didn't hurt.   My room light is now behaving itself and not flickering any more. It never did burn out, but I don't know how much life it has left.   My computer is being an idiot and acting up. It likes to make me turn it off and back on again because it freezes. Or

A purple mountain

I continued work on Flying Hamburgers for Game Gear. After I made a new song for level 3, I began work on level 5. This is a mountain. It's purple because I had judged it to be too white and then possibly be mistaken for clouds. So I changed it to purple because gray is almost like white. That and this is the Game Gear, so I can use color for it!   I have decided to break up the monotony of predictable enemy movements. So beginning on level 5, there is a random chance the en

So I discovered a bug in Yum! that caused me to give up on it. I turned my eyes back on Flying Hamburgers. I made a new background for level 4. I'm not sure it's clear where it takes place. So I'm asking you, where do you think this is taking place? I liked the music for levels 1 and 2. I made some new music for level 4. Now the music for level 3 (desert) seems out of place. I am wondering if I could make cool-sounding desert music.   I am hoping to make this the best g

Sheep.

So I drew a comic with sheep in it. It was in drawing this that I learned something: Sheep are really hard to draw. Especially if you want them to stand on their hind legs. This is the cleaned up version. You should have seen the one where they looked like fat people. Or perhaps they still do. I googled sheep pictures and tried. I tried really hard to make them look like sheep. But I failed. Regardless, it is still my choice for my webcomic for 12/26.   Also, I have somethin

eBay craziness / an answer

So I went on eBay's forums and told them what happened. Someone answered me and said it was a new "feature" because some sellers weren't happy that they weren't getting paid for their items immediately. So what, is using my PayPal balance not immediately? I don't know. Well, I guess it's sort of happy because I thought I had done something wrong. Good to know it's not my fault, BUT eBay should have told everyone that this was going into effect.   I've been working on a new Game Boy pro

eBay craziness / a question

So I went to eBay and clicked on Make Offer. This thing that never came up before told me I had to use my bank account for further Make Offers/Auctions. I clicked OK even though I didn't want to use my bank account and it said I could change it in settings. So I went to find settings on both PayPal and eBay and couldn't find it, although I did find a Payment settings on eBay. So I clicked on it. It said I am currently using my PayPal account for Make offers/auction. Plus what makes things weirde

Virtual Boy stuff

Working on my Virtual Boy game Minigame Mayhem. I never did hook up the Jaguar or play it. I've been asleep all day. I finally dragged myself out of bed at around 3:30p.m. after going to bed at around 1 a.m. or so. This minigame is called "Wok This Way," and it's similar to a game I made earlier for the Channel F. And Odyssey 2 (Nice Ice). It involves Steve the Stir Fry Elf hopping around bok choy leaves in a wok. If Steve touches the bottom of the wok, the game ends. Unlike othe

The fumes got me.

It had been a looooong time since I hooked up my Jaguar. I think I'll do that later tonight. I was playing Aaron the Aardvark again on emulator when I found a few bugs (not the ants.) So I went back and I think I fixed them. While I was at it, I changed the copyright date to 2024 just in case it ever gets published. Forunately for me, I began collecting when games weren't horribly expensive so I was able to get a near complete collection. But I don't have a Jag CD and I don't want to spend $500

Agh! It's flickering!

So my light bulb began to flicker. I have one of those weird light bulbs. I got some on amazon and they're supposed to come Saturday. Hopefully my light bulb will last until then. And hopefully I got the right kind. But the flickering it's doing is annoying. I woke up today at about noon and I noticed its beginning. I am wondering if it does that as a warning that it's about to go out or if it would do that regardless.   I do know I had a heck of a time trying to unscrew the light fixt

Scary Tales #3 (part 2)

I thought I wasn't going to do the cover for a while, but as it turns out I got some inspiration and made a cover for it. And I learned something: Drawing a hippopotamus is hard. So I put it on the website just in time for the holiday season.   I can't believe it's December and it's 63 degrees right now. I'm hot in here. I got the mail. I got a bubbleope mail. Inside was a copy of Star Wars: Jedi Adventure for the Tiger R-Zone. It came with a little plastic holder. I now have four game

Scary Tales #3

I got an idea for the third Scary Tales tale. So I went to my computer and began to write it. I had felt a wave of ideas coming to my brain so I put them down on my computer. And a few hours later, I had it: The third scary tale.   I had an idea, but then I thought for a little bit and the idea was actually a Goosebumps book. Well, perhaps. All I remember about the book was the cover, a giant kid, seen from legs down, stomping around on a playground. I had wanted to make a story about

Another boring day.

Today was a boring day. So I decided to go through my papers. While I was, I discovered a couple of stories I thought I had lost. One of them was made in 2020, so it was on my computer. The other one is undated, but it was from when I was a kid, I'm guessing around 1996 or so? So since the old one wasn't on my computer yet, I decided to type it up so it was in a Libre Office file. I don't use Word since I'd have to pay for it. I used to have Word, but the computer died and left me with no w
