My Early Playstation 3 Games

As I wrote in my last entry, I recently decided to get a Playstation 3...partly because a new gaming system interested me but mostly because it gave me a Blu-ray player. I've already bought a half-dozen Blu-ray titles with another 7 coming via the mail soon. But I have 3 PS3 games now...with anaother on the way as well. So here are my first 4 games for the Playstation 3...   Red Dead Redemption--I also mentioned in my last entry that this could be my first game for the PS3 and it was indeed

Surprisingly, A New System...

For awhile, I have been thinking I would never get another gaming system...I figured I had more than enough systems and games to keep me busy for the rest of my life. But I decided to rethink that and get a Playstation 3 since I've been told at my favorite DVD site that the PS3 is also a very fine Blu-ray player and I've been thinking of getting one of those. So the system will serve two purposes, as both a game playing machine and an upgrade in my movie-watching system. I ordered a PS3 on We

Feel Like A Million...

I recently discovered none of my local stores carried the color ink cartridge I need for my HP printer so I ordered one online...while I was at it, I ordered a DS game from the same place at the same time. The game I got was Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? This is yet another in the subset I have going of DS games based on TV game shows. I also have Family Feud, The Price Is Right, 1 Vs. 100, and two editions of Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? I guess I should get Jeopardy! next. The Mill

Monday's Arrivals

I got 3 more games on Monday...two for the original Playstation and one for the Xbox...   Batman Forever: The Arcade Game (PS1) Batman: Gotham City Racer (PS1) Aquaman (XBox)   I have heard that Aquaman is one of the worst games ever...as bad as Superman 64? Never having played Superman 64, I guess I'll never know. I was thinking the other day that there was a Lobo game and I'd need to get that if I'm to have every DC Comics video game that was made for my systems but it looks like it ne

Catwoman: First Thoughts

Catwoman is a game for the Nintendo GameCube system...it probably also came out for the PS2 and original Xbox which were the other consoles it was sharing shelves with at that time. I had some time to kill this evening so I put it in for about a half-hour and fooled around with it for a bit. One thing I found out is it's virtually impossible to get killed in this game. There was gunfire all around me and it knocked me back here and there but my character never fell down and died. Even a fall

And Now The Real Gaming Begins...

I got one game today...the last day I'll get a game until at least Monday so my consecutive days of getting a game ends at six. Today I received Batman & Robin for the original Playstation. This is the first game I've gotten for the original Playstation in quite awhile. I have no idea what the last one was. I actually have 3 more coming, though...all Batman games. Of course, the only unfortunate thing about getting this game finally is now I have to actually play it.

And Then It Was Five...

Today marks the fifth mailday of the week...and the fifth day of the week I have received at least one video game. This time, none of the games were super-hero games. Interestingly, all 3 of the games I got today are games I owned before...but which I eventually sold or gave away. So now I have copies of them again...all 3 games are for the original Xbox...   1. ESPN NFL 2K5 2. Halo 3. Halo 2

Fourth Day In A Row I've Received A Game

I was wondering if I could receive at least one game in the mail every mailday this week since I had ordered over a dozen of them. Today is day #4 and I received yet another...so only 2 more days to go! Today's arrival...   Catwoman for the GameCube   I have heard this is a pretty bad game but I've also been trying recently to complete my collection of all the games featuring DC Comics characters for systems I own. That means I even have to get (shudder!) Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis! So

Today's Games

I received 3 games today, all for the Xbox. I think 2 of the 3 were new and one used (I'm not home as I type this so I can't double-check just now). The games I got:   1. Superman: The Man of Steel 2. Madden NFL 2009 3. Major League Baseball 2K7   I believe the MLB 2K7 was the last baseball game for the Xbox and I think Madden 2009 was the very last game for the system period.   Added note: I have now double-checked and only one of the games, the Superman one, was new. The two sports

Today's Game Arrival

In my last entry (written within the last hour), I said I might get video games every mailday this week. Now today's mail has arrived and I did get one video game today:   Superman: Shadow of Apokolips for the PS2   I usually try to be careful when I buy a used game through Amazon...most sellers will tell you if you get everything. Once in awhile, I forget...or the description is lacking any information of what you get or don't get. This is a used game but the disc looks to be in very goo

Getting A Bunch of Games This Week

In my last entry, I mentioned that I got some games for my Nintendo DS last week. I also started ordering some cheap games (some new, some used) that are for the last generation of game systems (GameCube, PS2, Xbox). This happened because I started getting interested in reading my reprint books of old comic books and that led to my interest in getting more super-hero video games and that led to a few others. I think I wound up ordering about 15 games. I actually only ordered one for the PS2

My Latest Nintendo DS Games

I've had my DS for awhile...4 or 5 years, I think. Surprisingly, though, I don't have that many games for it. I seem to get them in spurts...I find a few here and there I want...then I go months (sometimes maybe a year or more) before I think to get anymore. This past week, I got 4 more...   1. Batman: The Brave and the Bold 2. Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story 3. Major League Baseball 2K10 4. Retro Atari   The baseball game is the only one I've played so far. I like it...thoug

Quick, Robin...To The Bat-Console!

I haven't been doing much in the way of game buying for awhile...that is one reason I haven't posted anything here in nearly a year. But recently I've been interested in reading about older comic books...and by the same way of thinking, my interest in video games inspired by comics has also been reactivated. I don't know if I want to get every super-hero game available for systems I own...but I might consider going for all such games involving the heroes of DC Comics. I've been ordering sever

My First 2009 Game Purchase (Okay, Second)

Believe it or not, I hadn't bought a video game this year until this week. I used to buy video games left and right (as most gamers do) but I decided to cut way back a year or so ago. I had actually received 3 games a few months back. A fellow gamer over at Retrogaming Roundtable sent me 3 games after I got out of the hospital...he sent me a PS1 game (Mega Man X4) and a pair of PS2 games (Mobile Light Force 2 and Unison) but he never included his name in the package though I have an inkling w

I Don't Have As Many Systems As I Used To

In the last few years, I have sold or given away several of my gaming systems. While I still enjoy gaming, I don't play as often as I used to and it seems many systems just don't hold much interest for me anymore. I've been selling or giving away systems I just don't play anymore...I figure if I haven't played it in a year or two, why keep it? Here are the systems I have struck from my collection in the last 2-3 years...   Atari 2600 Atari 5200 Atari Lynx ColecoVision Nintendo 64 Sega

Video Games For My Birthday!

My birthday was May 7 and I wasn't really expecting much of anything from anybody...but one of the regulars at a message board I frequent wanted to send me a game for my birthday...I told him he didn't have to but he seemed to want to. I was kind of expecting one used game from his collection...he actually wound up sending me four games, all still sealed in their original plastic wrapping. Obviously, I was quite flabbergasted but deeply grateful. I'm not buying much in the way of games these

Baseball

I don't plan on buying many games anymore (I don't have a current system and I don't know that there are many games coming out on the PS2 that interest me) but I love baseball games and last week decided to get one of the new baseball games...another reason is I wonder if they'll be phasing out the PS2 soon so maybe it doesn't have many baseball titles in its future. I nearly considered getting Major League Baseball 2K9 but then I read that it was getting mixed reviews so instead I wound up get

My Latest Game Purchase

It's been awhile since I bought a game...I'm not sure when that was exactly or what it was (LEGO Batman, perhaps?) but it was last year. So I finally made my first purchase of 2009 a day or two ago. I noticed earlier this week that Wal-Mart had a selection of games discounted to an even $10.00. One caught my eye, Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection, but I didn't buy it right away. Instead, I came home and checked out a gaming message board and did a search for this game and it seem

My Brother Got A PS2 For Christmas

My brother got a Playstation 2 for Christmas...given to him by his son. This makes me wonder if he'll invite me to play a game or two with him when I visit him now and then. He might but his son nevere invites me to play so who knows? I do have my own copies of at least a couple of the games he got for Christmas...MLB Power Pros, Grand Theft Auto III and Hot Shots Golf 3...of course, since I've had those for awhile, he may not want to play me on those as I might be better than him. We could

Exchanging Games For Christmas

I mentioned in my last entry (written way back on December 1) that I had received a package of games in a Secret Santa exchange. I wound up getting 7 games, all for the Playstation 2. Here is the list of games that I received...   Disaster Report Gran Turismo 3 A-spec Grand Theft auto III Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Kingdom Hearts Madden NFL 06 Virtua Fighter 4   I sent out a package of games myself...my package went all the way to Alaska. I sent him 18 games for the N64 along with

I Received A Package of Mystery Games Today

I'm taking part in a Secret Santa gift exchange this Christmas (an annual tradition) and my package arrived today. I have no idea yet who it's from and the games are gift-wrapped. Specifially, there are 3 wrapped packages and each package is thick enough to contain two games, unless one contains something extra such as a microphone (for a Karaoke game, perhaps) which would require thicker packaging. As everyone does, I provided a want list (participants are urged to give from their own collec

I Need To Make Up A Master Want List

I don't see myself buying any new video games for the rest of the year...I am involved in a Secret Santa gift exchange with a group of gamers so I expect to get at least one or two more games there, and don't want to buy anything else in the off-chance that I'd get something that my Secret Santa might get me. So I'm thinking of deciding just how many more games I might want for each system and make want lists accordingly. Unlike many hardcore collectors, I don't really want every game for any

So Are There Any Good Super-Hero Video Games?

The question is kind of rhetorical...of course, there are good super-hero video games. But it seems there are more bad ones than good ones. That seems kind of strange when you think that super-heroes and action video games ought to be a marriage made in crossover heaven...but it hasn't always been that way.   Batman has probably been the worst offender. Has any super-hero had more bad games than the big Bat guy? There was Batman: Dark Tomorrow and Batman Forever and so many others. There

My Gaming Library

I recently got what I figure will be the last games I buy myself this year so I thought it would be a good time to list what I have for each system. Some of these are precise counts while others are approximate. I do want to type up all my games before too long so I know exactly what I have. I've done that with 3 or 4 systems but have several more to go. These numbers could change by the end of the year because I'm taking part in a Secret Santa gift exchange. In that, I could get another ha

Got It!

In an earlier entry, I wrote about ordering a used video game (Fight Night: Round 2 for the GameCube) but when it came I got the case and manual...but the game disc was missing. It turns out that disc was sent to someone who wouldn't return the seller's e-mails about it. On Sunday I ordered another copy from a different seller and today it arrived...this time it included everything: case, manual and game disc. So I wind up a happy camper at the conclusion of this episode of As The Game Disc T
