For awhile, I have been thinking I would never get another gaming system...I figured I had more than enough systems and games to keep me busy for the rest of my life. But I decided to rethink that and get a Playstation 3 since I've been told at my favorite DVD site that the PS3 is also a very fine Blu-ray player and I've been thinking of getting one of those. So the system will serve two purposes, as both a game playing machine and an upgrade in my movie-watching system. I ordered a PS3 on We
I got 3 more games on Monday...two for the original Playstation and one for the Xbox...
Batman Forever: The Arcade Game (PS1)
Batman: Gotham City Racer (PS1)
Aquaman (XBox)
I have heard that Aquaman is one of the worst games ever...as bad as Superman 64? Never having played Superman 64, I guess I'll never know. I was thinking the other day that there was a Lobo game and I'd need to get that if I'm to have every DC Comics video game that was made for my systems but it looks like it ne
I was wondering if I could receive at least one game in the mail every mailday this week since I had ordered over a dozen of them. Today is day #4 and I received yet another...so only 2 more days to go! Today's arrival...
Catwoman for the GameCube
I have heard this is a pretty bad game but I've also been trying recently to complete my collection of all the games featuring DC Comics characters for systems I own. That means I even have to get (shudder!) Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis! So
I've had my DS for awhile...4 or 5 years, I think. Surprisingly, though, I don't have that many games for it. I seem to get them in spurts...I find a few here and there I want...then I go months (sometimes maybe a year or more) before I think to get anymore. This past week, I got 4 more...
1. Batman: The Brave and the Bold
2. Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
3. Major League Baseball 2K10
4. Retro Atari
The baseball game is the only one I've played so far. I like it...thoug
In the last few years, I have sold or given away several of my gaming systems. While I still enjoy gaming, I don't play as often as I used to and it seems many systems just don't hold much interest for me anymore. I've been selling or giving away systems I just don't play anymore...I figure if I haven't played it in a year or two, why keep it? Here are the systems I have struck from my collection in the last 2-3 years...
Atari 2600
Atari 5200
Atari Lynx
ColecoVision
Nintendo 64
Sega
It's been awhile since I bought a game...I'm not sure when that was exactly or what it was (LEGO Batman, perhaps?) but it was last year. So I finally made my first purchase of 2009 a day or two ago. I noticed earlier this week that Wal-Mart had a selection of games discounted to an even $10.00. One caught my eye, Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection, but I didn't buy it right away. Instead, I came home and checked out a gaming message board and did a search for this game and it seem
The question is kind of rhetorical...of course, there are good super-hero video games. But it seems there are more bad ones than good ones. That seems kind of strange when you think that super-heroes and action video games ought to be a marriage made in crossover heaven...but it hasn't always been that way.
Batman has probably been the worst offender. Has any super-hero had more bad games than the big Bat guy? There was Batman: Dark Tomorrow and Batman Forever and so many others. There
Today I continued my ongoing project of playing all my games or at least as money of them as I can find...I really need to come up with a name for this project...Roger's Play 'Em All Project? Nah, I don't think so...
5. Black (EA)
I'm not sure when this came out...I have a Greatest Hits edition and got mine last Christmas but today was the first time I actually got around to putting it in my machine. It's a modern warfare game (I think I heard Iran mentiioned in the live action opening
A day after receiving LEGO Batman, I received the FPS game Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Operation Resurrection. I know this hasn't gotten very good reviews but at under $8.00, I figure I'm not taking too much of a loss if I hate it. The last couple of days I'd been playing some Duke Nukem 3D on the Saturn so I'm definitely in the mood for some 1st person shooting. I still have a couple games coming which are also FPS games: Red Faction (the first one) for the PS2 and the first Call of Duty o
Regarding video games (and DVDs and audio CDs), I just have way too much stuff. Now I'm thinking of not only weeding out the lesser games but possibly also throwing out some complete systems (and, of course, the game libraries that go with those). Some would say I'm crazy and that I'll miss those systems. But in the last year, I've given away both my Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis systems and I don't miss them one bit. So I feel I can throw out a couple more systems I've never been into all that mu
Last year I thought I was done with the PS2, so much so that I put what I thought were all my games for the system and let my sister-in-law give them away to a nephew of hers. Then I came across one game I missed including...then another...then I found a third that was actually inside my PS2. I couldn't find the case for it so I must've included the case and manual for that game (Rumble Roses) among the games I gave away so now I only have the game disc itself. Maybe I'll stop up at Gamestop
One of the gaming boards I visit has been having a fun thread about a GameCube game titled "Final Fight: Round 2". It turns out that the GameCube version of this title has the SNES edition of "Super Punch-Out!" in it so people have been posting new covers for the game with the Super Punch-Out characters as the cover models. I love Super Punch-Out! and it is, in fact, one of my favorite games on the system. So, after thinking about it for several days, I decided to get it and found it online
Awhile back, I read that they were going to do some video games based on The Price Is Right...I'm kind of surprised they never did them before. At any rate, I understand they are out now...there's a version for the Wii, one for the DS and a version for the PC and Mac. I don't own a Wii, so I won't be getting that so I might consider getting one for either the PC or the Nintendo DS. I need to research this...and I know many games based on TV game shows, at least recently, have been rather lack
A lot of people like to ask others what system they have the most for (for me it's either the PS1 or the SNES as I have about 200 games for both) but I thought I'd mention the system I have the fewest number of games for. For me, it's the PlayStation 2 though this will change by the end of the week. This is because my PS2 library is my smallest by a single game and I have an order coming with 2 games in it (the two Hot Shots game for the system). When they arrive, the PS2 will move up and my
I went out yesterday in search of a specific PS2 title I've heard about...but did not find it. Instead, I settled for buying a second PS2 memory card and one other game, Ratchet: Unlocked. I think that the only Ratchet & Clank title I'll need after the previously ordered titles come in will be the one subtitled "Size Matters". Maybe I'll order that one next.
When I got back home, I got online and ordered two other titles including the one that I had been looking for at the store, SN
My last post was made over 3 months ago. Part of that was because in July, I went into the hospital and had open-heart surgery. I'm still recovering from that but will try to get back to this blog on at least a semi-regular basis. These days, I seem to be concentrating on two systems, one console (Nintendo GameCube) and one portable (Nintendo DS). I may pull out my Xbox system soon so I have two consoles hooked up...I gave away all my PS2 games except for one so that's not really one I'll be
Below I will basically be reprinting what I previously wrote about my first ten DS games...plus I'll be adding four titles which I have bought since then. I guess 14 titles isn't a big collection but I'm not going for a complete collection...
1. Animal Crossing: Wild World is the sequal to the GameCube hit. I don't love it as much as I did the original. Maybe I'm just tired of the whole thing.
2. Konami Classics Series: Arcade Hits is another version of Konami's Arcade Classics (which came
A month or so ago, I ordered Peter Jackson's King Kong for the GameCube. The seller had apparently put their listing in the wrong section as the game I received was the Xbox version of that game. I was told I could return it for a refund but I opted to keep it and pass it along to a friend. Last week, I again ordered this game for the GameCube. And today the order was cancelled. This is probably a case of the seller thinking he had the game but turned out he was mistaken. So now I've decid
Midway Arcade Treasures
System: GameCube
Publisher: Midway
Rating: T (Teen)
Memory Requirement: 4 blocks
As with my first review, this is a collection of arcade games. Midway gave us 3 volumes of this series...Volume 2 had 21 games, I think, and they got theme-oriented with the third series which was all racing games. This series contains adaptations of no less than 24 games that were originally games for video arcades. They include:
Spy Hunter, Defender, Defender II, Gauntlet,
I'm starting a little project in which I'm going to play each of my GameCube games one by one and do a review of each. I'm no professional reviewer, of course, so this is just for fun. I may go through long stretches where I do a review every day...then I may slow down from time to time. Some games I've played a lot, some not so much...or not at all. I have been buying a lot of games lately so many will indeed be completely new to me. At first I was going to do it strictly alphabetically bu
Last year I had given myself a limit...no more than 20 game purchases during the year. For this year, I decided to forget about any limits. And it's a good thing...I've already gotten 52 games this year and still have 4 on their way. Here is a list of what I've received so far this year:
1. Go! Go! Hypergrind (GameCube, Jan. 5)
2. Red Faction 2 (GC, Jan. 5)
3. Dark Summit (GC, Jan. 5) Free game
4. Avalanche 1080 (GC, Jan. 6)
5. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (GC, Jan
Yesterday I received my 10th game for my Nintendo DS. Considering I bought my unit back in 2005, I haven't exactly been splurging on the system but I've been buying more in the last half-year or so and will probably continue to purchase games off and on (I do have one more on order right now). Here's what I have so far in alphabetical order...
1. Animal Crossing: Wild World is the sequal to the GameCube hit. I don't love it as much as I did the original. Maybe I'm just tired of the whole
I've been saying (here and elsewhere) that I was going to stop buying games for my GameCube library once I'd reached an even 100 games which seemed like a nice round number. Well, I've decided to change my mind about that...there are just too many games I'm interested in that I'd still like to have. So, as l ong as I can find games that still interest me, I'll keep buying them. Interestingly, I've not bought much in the way of Xbox games lately and that's what I mostly was buying last year.
The website IGN.com has picked the 25 best games ever this week for the GameCube, PS2 and Xbox as well as the GBA. They figure that they've all been supplanted by new hardware and this is the year they'll gasp their last for the most part so they may as well celebrate them by picking (in their opinion) what are the best games for each system.
GameCube--I was surprised to see that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess wasn't even considered since they consider it to be primarily a Wiii titl
Earlier this week, I received the following 3 games for my Nintendo GameCube...
All-Star Baseball 2003
MLB SlugFest 20-04
True Crime: New York City
After getting these, I checked a website where I've been keeping a list of my GC games...and I was surprised. I was pretty sure that, including these and one other game I still have on order, that my list of games would be at 101. Instead, it was at 99. I've been planning on stopping my GameCube purchases once I reached 100 games. I tho
