A day after receiving LEGO Batman, I received the FPS game Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Operation Resurrection. I know this hasn't gotten very good reviews but at under $8.00, I figure I'm not taking too much of a loss if I hate it. The last couple of days I'd been playing some Duke Nukem 3D on the Saturn so I'm definitely in the mood for some 1st person shooting. I still have a couple games coming which are also FPS games: Red Faction (the first one) for the PS2 and the first Call of Duty o
My last post was made over 3 months ago. Part of that was because in July, I went into the hospital and had open-heart surgery. I'm still recovering from that but will try to get back to this blog on at least a semi-regular basis. These days, I seem to be concentrating on two systems, one console (Nintendo GameCube) and one portable (Nintendo DS). I may pull out my Xbox system soon so I have two consoles hooked up...I gave away all my PS2 games except for one so that's not really one I'll be
I just recently finished yet another season of MVP Baseball 2005 in which my Pittsburgh Pirates beat the New York Yankees to win the World Series...only in video game land, huh? I like this game but the 2005 edition was the last one due to another company getting the exclusive rights to use the MLB licenses. I don't know if there will be a decent baseball game this year (last year's one main game, Major League Baseball 2K6 wasn't particularly inspiring) so I may just play another season of MVP
I had a goal that I wouldn't buy more than 20 games this year...and I thought I'd do it but today I decided to pick up a copy of MVP Baseball 2005 for the GameCube and that was my 21st game of the year...so another goal has fallen. I decided to pick that up as I feel it was the last really good game for the Cube (I thought this year's Major League Baseball 2K6 was good at first but I've since decided I have a few reservations about it) and I have my doubts it will get any baseball game next yea
One of the gaming boards I visit has been having a fun thread about a GameCube game titled "Final Fight: Round 2". It turns out that the GameCube version of this title has the SNES edition of "Super Punch-Out!" in it so people have been posting new covers for the game with the Super Punch-Out characters as the cover models. I love Super Punch-Out! and it is, in fact, one of my favorite games on the system. So, after thinking about it for several days, I decided to get it and found it online
My birthday was May 7 and I wasn't really expecting much of anything from anybody...but one of the regulars at a message board I frequent wanted to send me a game for my birthday...I told him he didn't have to but he seemed to want to. I was kind of expecting one used game from his collection...he actually wound up sending me four games, all still sealed in their original plastic wrapping. Obviously, I was quite flabbergasted but deeply grateful. I'm not buying much in the way of games these
After only buying 21 games last year, I see, to be almost back to my usual self this year. I think I've already bought about 8 games this year so far.
Last night I took a run over to Wal-Mart. I noticed a DS 2-game pack in the showcase (one was a Pac-Man game, the other a Dig Dug one) but I wasn't familiar with them so I wasn't sure if I'd like them. Thus, I left them there. I should look up a few reviews and if they're decent, I may go back and get them. I also saw an Incredibles game
I received 3 games today, all for the Xbox. I think 2 of the 3 were new and one used (I'm not home as I type this so I can't double-check just now). The games I got:
1. Superman: The Man of Steel
2. Madden NFL 2009
3. Major League Baseball 2K7
I believe the MLB 2K7 was the last baseball game for the Xbox and I think Madden 2009 was the very last game for the system period.
Added note: I have now double-checked and only one of the games, the Superman one, was new. The two sports
In my last entry (written within the last hour), I said I might get video games every mailday this week. Now today's mail has arrived and I did get one video game today:
Superman: Shadow of Apokolips for the PS2
I usually try to be careful when I buy a used game through Amazon...most sellers will tell you if you get everything. Once in awhile, I forget...or the description is lacking any information of what you get or don't get. This is a used game but the disc looks to be in very goo
Yoshi's Island DS arrived today. This is my 7th DS game but it will probably be awhile before I get to it as I'm pretty into both New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario World (GBA) right now. When I either beat or get tired of New Super Mario Bros., I will then stick this game into the DS slot of my DS unit.
Interestingly, I ordered this at least a week after I ordered an Xbox game, Crash Twinsanity, and that game still hasn't arrived yet. I see I actually ordered that (from an Amazon.co
For awhile, I have been thinking I would never get another gaming system...I figured I had more than enough systems and games to keep me busy for the rest of my life. But I decided to rethink that and get a Playstation 3 since I've been told at my favorite DVD site that the PS3 is also a very fine Blu-ray player and I've been thinking of getting one of those. So the system will serve two purposes, as both a game playing machine and an upgrade in my movie-watching system. I ordered a PS3 on We
A month or so ago, I ordered Peter Jackson's King Kong for the GameCube. The seller had apparently put their listing in the wrong section as the game I received was the Xbox version of that game. I was told I could return it for a refund but I opted to keep it and pass it along to a friend. Last week, I again ordered this game for the GameCube. And today the order was cancelled. This is probably a case of the seller thinking he had the game but turned out he was mistaken. So now I've decid
I got 3 GC games today...
Alien Hominid
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
Zoocube
Thus, though it was only 3 titles, I got games from A to Z today. Then I added one more to my order list as I found a less than $30 copy of the first Donkey Konga so I will now be getting that...probably sometime next week. I'm not sure I'll get Donkey Konga 2. Maybe if I find it at the right price...
The question is kind of rhetorical...of course, there are good super-hero video games. But it seems there are more bad ones than good ones. That seems kind of strange when you think that super-heroes and action video games ought to be a marriage made in crossover heaven...but it hasn't always been that way.
Batman has probably been the worst offender. Has any super-hero had more bad games than the big Bat guy? There was Batman: Dark Tomorrow and Batman Forever and so many others. There
Awhile back, I read that they were going to do some video games based on The Price Is Right...I'm kind of surprised they never did them before. At any rate, I understand they are out now...there's a version for the Wii, one for the DS and a version for the PC and Mac. I don't own a Wii, so I won't be getting that so I might consider getting one for either the PC or the Nintendo DS. I need to research this...and I know many games based on TV game shows, at least recently, have been rather lack
I hadn't been playing many games lately so last night I played the PS2 version of Return to Castle Wolfenstein for the first time. This one is subtitled "Operation Resurrection". I haven't got to any of the really weird stuff. I know some sites and magazines didn't care for it...Gamespot even rated it as "Poor", but I kind of liked it myself. Maybe later, when it gets really weird, I won't care for it but for now I'm enjoying it. It's certainly nowhere near as weird as Wolfenstein 3D was...
CMT Presents Karaoke Revolution Country is the one game disc I received this week so far. I've heard of these Karaoke Revolution games but have never tried one. I like country music, though, and figured this is probably the one time a country music game will be available. I'll probably be lousy at it, though...since I'm a lousy singer.
I also received one of those joystick games...well, in this case, it's a paddle game. It's a collection of 13 games in a 2-player paddle collection in the
I haven't been doing much in the way of game buying for awhile...that is one reason I haven't posted anything here in nearly a year. But recently I've been interested in reading about older comic books...and by the same way of thinking, my interest in video games inspired by comics has also been reactivated. I don't know if I want to get every super-hero game available for systems I own...but I might consider going for all such games involving the heroes of DC Comics. I've been ordering sever
Last year I thought I was done with the PS2, so much so that I put what I thought were all my games for the system and let my sister-in-law give them away to a nephew of hers. Then I came across one game I missed including...then another...then I found a third that was actually inside my PS2. I couldn't find the case for it so I must've included the case and manual for that game (Rumble Roses) among the games I gave away so now I only have the game disc itself. Maybe I'll stop up at Gamestop
Almost every year, a message board I go to sponsors a Secret Santa gift exchange. We're all videogamers there so that's what gets exchanged. People have always been encouraged to give things from their own collections...that way, we don't have to spend a lot of money and the person we are matched with can still get several games. I have separated 5 games from my collection I will be sending to my victim...er, recipient...and they're all on his want list so I am sure he will enjoy them. I mig
Introductiion--I recently ordered a GameCube game which will give me 151 games...I figured I needed to play through my GC games and decide which was the least of that collection so I could let it go...and keep my GC library at 150 titles. I've been thinking it over and have decided this might be the right time to start playing through all my games and write up my thoughts on each. I don't really consider these reviews but just some random thoughts once I've played them. Some games (like today
I played three more PS1 games yesterday. After playing Hot Shots Golf Fore!, Hot Shots Golf 3 and Hot Shots Golf 2 (in that order), I finally got around to playing a Vs. game in the original Hot shots Golf. I did prefer the graphics in it to Hot Shots Golf 2. They changed the look of the characters, it seems to me. In the first game, they are big-headed short people but are taller and lankier (well, some of them) in Hot Shots Golf 2. I then played a pair of baseball titles. I played one ai
I just finished my first game of Major League Baseball 2K6 on the GameCube. My first game was home against the Los Angeles Dodgers...as always, the team I control was my Pittsburgh Pirates. I think I simmed past the first week of the season without realizing what I was doing. I saw a game lit up on the schedule but I think I just went to the Pirates' first home game, simming the first week which were road games. This is my first MLB game since MVP 2005.
Overall, I had a good time and w
I might actually get a video game for Christmas this year...maybe a couple. My nephew, a big gamer, has indicated he might want to get me a game for Christmas...and I could take part in a Secret Santa gift exchange. I've done that in the past at a gaming board...though I'm not sure we'll have one this year. If we do, I want to be ready. In the past, I've wracked my brain trying to think of games I'd like but this year I'm doing it a bit differently. I've gone to GameRankings.com and made up
I've not bought any GameCube games for awhile. That's partly because I've not felt like playing too much recently but also because, since I already have over a hundred titles for the system, I didn't think there were many games left for the system that really interested me. But I have now purchased a handful of games.
My nephew and his wife lent me Mario Party 7...I have Mario Party 4 & 6 for the Cube and enjoy those and found I really liked #7 as well. I got on the internet and track
