My Falcon's environment

What do you thing of it? For some strange reason the snapshot program displays this in the screen and I do not know how to avoid it. Maybe start a console to capture it? MiNT + XaAES + Teradesk + Taskbar + Toswin2 + Clocky +fracIRC. Oh and please don't comment on the time and date. It' s just a matter of a dead RTC.

The frustration that is Aliexpress

As you may or may not know Alliexpress is a short of an ebay alternative and Aliexpress sucks! Seriously don't buy from aliexpress! Never buy from Aliexpress. Send Aliexpress where it belongs, to history!   Long story short. I bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 screen from a seller in Aliexpress and the item was defective. Meaning that the digitizer won't work. It happens in ebay too, but out of eight purchases from Aliexprees three were defective. That's right, there is a very high probability you'l

Quick extract 0.5. I'll call it a public beta..

So here's the next version of quick extract. After some complaints about the distribution method this zip file has all the files you'll ever need. Just replace everything and it will work. What's new?   1. It now supports bz2 and tar.bz2 files. 2. Fixed bugs at tar.gz handling, it didn't work as it should but it will now. Hopefully any problems will be found by the users this time. The shortened version tbz isn't supported... i found no need but if you want it added just give me a shout, or

Downfall Falcon

Some time ago I wrote about Downfall for the atari jaguar and how much fun we had while developing it. For this falcon port little has changed in that respect. GGN tried to add to the game and with the graphics by Templeton and Sh3 the falcon gained a lot of interesting backgrounds. 505 signs the music in this one and the samples from the jaguar version were kept. Some don't fit really well with the falcon, since it's only 32-bit but they are funny to listen to nevertheless .   But as someone

Attempt at something new.

Have you heard my voice? I guess not, so here is your chance . I tried to make a new video today, of me presenting my atari falcon 060, what sort of hardware I have, how it all looks like etc. I did it in english for the international crowd and I am not sure how it would appeal to people. So express your views, even if they are on the harsh side (I was never a fan of "nothing positive to say..."), So enjoy the vid.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQHWkzJSOgk

Summer vacations.

Some of you may wonder why there is nothing Atari related from me. Truth is.. demotivation! Without anything exciting going on in the ST side of things (at least in front of the scenes) I find that my ct63 is rarely turned on. Also, I've been enjoying some summer vacations in Chalkidiki. Here's a sky!

Falcon youtube.

As some of you know (the faithful readers at least) I've been posting a few falcon and ST vids on youtube. I am at a point in time that I have very few ideas on what to post, so I am looking for your recommendations. What falcon video would you like to see?

Downfall by Reboot. For the Atari Jaguar.

Well, this isn't the first time that I've been involved in the development of software and especially games but this is one of my favourites. First of all it took only 12 days to make and it was great fun while it lasted. The coders had the main engine up and running in just a few hours and then it was all testing, adding assets, more testing and design. Secondly it was all the laughs we had while discussing the game and how we should progress and lastly the end result that worked surprisingly w

And after some power fluctuations

I heard my falcon's HD do clicking sounds. Then I couldn't write to the disk and 1 bad sector was found. But modern drives don't have bad sectors, which means it's on its way out. I had saved all the data I needed but what do I do now?

Quick Extract v 0.3 released

Hi, just to announce the release of Quick Extract v 0.3. This is a small program that will allow you to easily extract files with just a double click from your desktop. Just install it as an application to open those zip, rar and other archive files. Everything else is explained in the docs. Have fun!

Atari 16/32 gaming in 2009.

Hi, finally found an idea to update my blog. I guess that's fun.   Though I don't think I am as much a gamer as I was last year (or active in the atari scene for that matter), I am still here. Still browsing the web, still getting new ideas, still helping out with STOT, though I've taken quite a backseat there with Thorn doing most of the work. So what is the state of things in 16/32 gaming this year?   For a starters, a few sites have gone active and a few more continue. Atarimania started

2 days with the CT63

After about a month, I finally got a free ATX PSU, in about 15 minutes I installed the CT63, booted the machine and started enjoying it. The speed difference is impressive. The demos more so. First think I did was run the DHS demo Derealization. I had seen the video countless times, but a video can't convey the feeling of the real machine, doing things its designers never thought possible. This accelerator really makes for a different machine. Can't wait to explore it more. And I never thoug

Why was the software pack created?

You might have read the announcement and you might have not. But with the help and kind offer for hosting from D-Bug, I released (and I use the I in a relatively loose sense) a small preconfigured software collection. You can find it at http://morethangames.dbug-automation.co.uk/ . What's the deal with it? As I write in the web site, nowadays most active people in the community or people that want to get into it, get an atari ST with a hard disk. But setting that hard disk up, a complete atari

Outline worms

Back in Outline 08 my good friend beetle (whom you all know by his moto: Have you modded atari today?), showed me on his laptop a BASIC program that an Amstrad CPC scener had written on his laptop (yeah, I mean THAT laptop). So I took over the task to port it to the ST GFA BASIC. Most of the work was done on site but today I revisited it. Beetle wants it to become a screen saver, but since I don't really know how to do that yet, here is worms vs 0.5. Enjoy.   Music replay routine by gwEm/phf,

Mega STE tweaking.

As I said on my previous post, I got a Mega STE from my good friend Beetle whom I met at Outline 08. As one would expect the Mega STE is in top form. I'll add pictures in my gallery (heh, I just found about this feature ). Now, I need to install the necessary software so that the machine becomes at it's best. Let's say a few things about it and compare it to the falcon. The MegaSTE is pretty fast, sometimes more so than the falcon. BUT it can only take up to 4 MB's of RAM. So, mirroring my

STOTro released.

Hi, This is my first intro, done in GFA Basic. It's planned to announce STOT @ Outline 08. Enjoy watching. Intro is for STE only and needs 2MB's of RAM (a bug discovered today hopefully will be fixed soon).     Update: STOTRO 1.1 released. Now works on Falcons as well! Also the memory bug is fixed. Now needs 1MB.   Edit: It's also on pouet.

Falcon fixing

Three things that had to be done were done. With the help of CyranoJ and lp and the guide by techie Alison I mounted the hard disk on the RF shield, added a sony mpf 920 floppy disk drive since my epson died and repaired my VGA cable. Read the original thread here. Crappy cell phone camera pictures follow. I think my falcon looks better like this. I'll keep it that way. What do you think?

New stuff coming my way!

Here's a few things I am getting from a very well known Atari ST scener. It was a pleasure doing business with him Some of the very best atari st/falcon software .

Falcon game videos

It's obvious that falcon gaming videos are rare in this world. This will change soon. With the help of SSB, whom I thank, I made a composite video cable for my falcon and I recorded the first video last night. You can find it . It's from the game Running which as you can tell is a Doom clone. Unfortunately there is no audio there but this will change in the next videos, I totally forgot I need an audio cable as well.. Enjoy.

Another new old PC that came my way

Instead of Ataris I am always given old PCs. This time another 486 class machine. An AMD DX4/120Mhz with 16MB RAM, 1GB HD, S3 64V+ Trio graphics card and something that seems to be a Sound Blaster compatible audio card. The motherboard has 5(!) PCI slots and 3 ISA's.   Edit: Because I was puzzled by the colour (brown) and the location of the 5th PCI slot, I must conclude that it's a VESA local bus.
