A big thank you to everyone who has been reading along this month. You can find the full list of the Top 30 Vertical Shooters for the Atari 2600 at the Wrap-Up Party. You can also check out the game I forgot!
I hope you had as much fun with this as I did!
I warned you and now I've gone and done it! Over the course of the next month, I will break down the Top 30 Vertical Shooters for the Atari 2600. Join me daily as I count up to the very best shootin' game for the home console that started it all!
NOTE: I am attempting to port over all of my old "Ultimate Strategy Guides" from the old Atarinvader.com site. The site is archived somewhere deep in the annals of the internet and that is my only resource for retrieval. I apologize that for right now these will be text only, but I hope to migrate them all over at some point and revitalize them for everyone's enjoyment! Thanks

The penultimate vertical shooter is also one of the most impressive (non-Starpath) games for the system. It's so grand, that it's presence on this list is almost unfair.
No one, and I mean no one, saw this coming. Heck, to be honest, I didn't see it coming until I started putting the list together and doing some side-by-side comparison.
I stand behind #14, dark horse though it may be.
25 years ago, as will come a shock to all, I was a very geeky, very lonely teen. I had a few friends of a similar ilk. Unlikely, I know. One of those friends, we'll call him Bill, was really good at painting miniatures, like Warhammer and so forth. He had a wide variety of minis that he hand painted, but the vast majority were fantasy themed. Bill played AD&D and had lots of affiliated paraphernalia. When he would finish with a big batch of minis he and I would play games with them or
Last time around, I gave you a peek into the inspiration behind writing a Yars' Revenge comic book that will (likely) never see print. It's a great writing project and will be a good way to get some practice in, should I ever be so bold as to make a pitch to one of the big comic publishers. It's also a fun way to merge two of my favorite hobbies. And since I am doing it, I figure it would be fun to share it with the only community who could really get the concept. Therefore, I am subjecting
Yeah, you read that right. I'm breaking down Backgammon for the Atari 2600 and you are going to like it. No. You are going to LOVE it. Don't chicken out now, click the link

Ok. So here comes the next great feature from the Electric Frankfurter! http://www.electricfrankfurter.com/
Stolen directly from recent hot topics in the 2600 forum here (shameless, really) I am going to take a shot at ranking the Top 25 Vertical Shooter games for the Atari 2600. I've trolled (in the good way) the library of 2600 games and have come up with about 42 games that fit my arbitrary criteria for what makes a vertical shooter. (see below) What I need from you good people is a
Kids, I'm going to be honest with you, I really cannot wrap my head around having more than one blog, so I'm pretty much going to use this as a portal to send you over to my actual blog, the Electric Frankfurter. We do all kinds of fun things over there and I think you will dig our stuff.
I love you and I hope you will not shun me for this blatant self promotion, but I just cannot do two blogs, I can barely do one. So if there is love in your heart and you are entertained by my nonsense, I
Here it is! The absolute best vertical shooter for the Atari 2600. You've waited all month for this day! And be sure to come back tomorrow for the wrap-up and find out what I think about the game I completely forgot!

I submit for your review, a little piece I wrote on the evolution of platforming games.
Thanks for reading.
As some of you may have heard, I have been toying around with a Yars' Revenge comic book. I am doing this entirely as a writing exercise to see if I can do it. I am a huge comic book nerd and would LOVE to write comics for real, but as I am not an actual writer, this is more of a dream than something I could actually do. That said, if I ever want to even consider making that dream a reality, it is going to take some practice. So that's where this project comes from.

Now that I have established that there is fertile soil for planting in the Yars' Revenge universe, I'm going to take a minute to give you an overview of my vision for that universe and write a bit about the backdrop against which my (first) story is set.
Being such a fan of the original material, my first goal and my "Prime Directive" if you will, is to stay as faithful to the original 9 page story, written by Hope Shafer, as possible. Likewise, I plan on taking advantage of the visuals pro
A childhood favorite takes #13. It was ranked higher, but I realized that nostalgia was propping it up a bit. I replayed a few games and got honest. I still hold that this is a great shooter!
