Here is another conversion from my Atari BASIC programs to the TI-99. It's a Yahtzee game. I never liked any of the Yahtzee for the Atari 8-bit so I wrote my own. This is mostly a direct port of that game except for the graphics. On the Atari I used DLI to change the font sizes on the fly which can't be done on the TI-99. Way back in the 80s, when I was a kid, there was this thing called the TI International Users Group. The group had a TI magazine and a cassette program exchange. You could create programs and summit them to the IUG who would make them public for others to buy on cassette. If you submitted a program you would be able to get the cassette programs free. So being the cheap-ass I am I submitted a lot of programs to the IUG.

This doesn't have anything to do with retro computers but with retro airplanes. The XB-70 was a hyper-sonic proposed in the 60s. It had a projected cruising speed of MACH 3, which is impressive even by today's standards. I remember as a kid I of having a model of this X plane. It was 60s cool if there ever was one. On the NTSC Atari 600XL the only video output is RF and the picture quality is really not very good, at all, not in the least, bad. So I thought maybe, if I want to use this 600XL for anything more than a prop, I might want to replace the video with something better. After looking around I chose the UAV by https://thebrewingacademy.com/ due to it’s simplistically and it’s cheap at only $30. Plus it has one of the best pictures I have ever seen for a composite output.

I have been going through my Atari 8-bit games and looking to translate them into TI-99 games, mostly BASIC. The games I wrote in Atari MSBASIC are fairly straight forward translations. Atari BASIC has the issue of strings being completely different but can be got around.

I have been testing the waters of Atari APX Pascal recent and have been having an issue with MEDIT blowing up when run from the Pascal menu. I twittered the great Bill Lange who gave me the fix.
(1) As you probably know, you have to copy the MEDIT executable over to your work disk image in disk drive D2. In addition, MEDIT needs a minor modification for it to work with the Atari Pascal Language System.

Not a lot of people knew Microsoft wrote a BASIC for the Atari 8-bit line. Fact is Atari Microsoft BASIC was going to be 'the' BASIC for the Atait 8-bit line. the activision labels for the Atari 2600 really deteriorate over time. So for those games I usually make a new label. Here is a Megamania label I created. It's a cleaned up scanned label so it would keep the original look.
I created this version of Atari 8-bit Mille Borne to use a joystick for use on my PSP. I have an Atari 800 emulator on my PSP but using the keyboard on the emulated Atari is, challenging. So I converted the original Mille Borne to use a Joystick.
UPDATE: found the bug in the 99/2. erase the ti99_232.ini in the INI directory fixes the issue with it starting in partial emulation mode.

Little time ago I posted some files here that were roll-ups of files for MAME/MESS from the, what I call, the 'other' 99s; that is the TI99-8, TI99-2, TI-99 PSystem, MyArcII XB and the Geneve 9640. Looking over them I realized I hadn't vetted these very closely, especially the Geneve.

In the last post I threw around some terms that might not be familiar to those who may have never used the Geneve 9640. So, here is a brief description.
MYGPL - Programs from the TI99/4(a) can't be run directly on the 9640. A lot of TI99 software has a underlying layer known as GPL in the code. MYGPL has a GPL emulator built in that enables those TI99 programs with GPL to run on the 9640.
To run TI99 software with MYGPL you type in 'MYGPL nameofTI99program' at the MDOS prompt.
I have updated three of my programs for the TI99: MilleBorne, Yahtzee and Uno.
for MilleBornes I cleaned up the code for the AI opponent & made it faster.
for Yahtzee I remade it without TML to speed the program up by factor of 2. Drawing the fancy color fonts in TML slows down the program because TML has to essentially draw each font on the screen in high rez. Redoing the program for just using DISPLAY AT speeds things up a lot.

After a long time of procrastination I have finally got around to updating the Mille Borne for the TI-99 in Extended BASIC. I have added some sound effects, some voice CALL SAY("UHOH"), sped up parts of the program and cleaned up some minor bugs that had been long standing. This is 'probably' the last version but I have learned never to say never. The game is XB autoboot and is in .DSK v9t9 format.
I wrote a version of Uno for the Atari in Atari Microsoft BASIC and posted a few blogs ago. Well, here is Uno in the Kull XBII. Kull XBII is a little known package to TI-99 Extended BASIC. Check an earlier post for more on the KXBII package.
One nice thing about KXBII is that it enables multi-color text which I use a lot in the program and it looks really good. Multi-color text is the best feature in KXBII.
