mission: make a simple jaguar game having never really made a game before

Booooiiiiiiiing

So I started a new game for the Jaguar, preliminary title "Boingy Uppy". That name just might stick. Be warned. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/242697-wip-boingy-uppy/

Decided to just post updates to the rB+ forum instead, made a thread there.

Doger:: Atari Jaguar Frogger game progress

While I'm busy with all things rB+ I've done a bit more work on the Doger tutorial game. There's new enemy sprites in the road section (5 sets of animated cat animations with different perspective, displayed based on their individual x-position for each of the 15 sprites). I've made a short tutorial to show how this is achieved and it's posted to the rB+ website: http://reboot.atari.org/new-reboot/rbplus/tutorial2.html or you can read the thread here:http://atariage.com/forums/topic/236154-new-m

pause :: option

Been a while. Again, I've been hyper-busy with rb+, but mostly not with the game this blog was created for... oh well :0)   Being friends with both CJ, the developer of raptor, and the insanely helpful and hyperactive guy responsible for rb+, GGN, kind of means I'm in a uniquely perfect position when tinkering with the Jaguar's first fully functional BASIC. What I've come to realise is that without this instantaneous online help, feature request and bug-squishing service, I'd probably given up

post four:: amazing horse or... barry, is that you?

It's been a little while, but it's not that I've been staying away from raptorBASICplus, it's because I've been too preoccupied with it, just not directly with this little game idea. Been exploring more of what rb+ has to offer, learning a few more of the essentials, finding some more bugs and rejoicing as GGN fixed them and added even more commands and features.   OK, the game. First things first - I kind of decided I didn't want to do the Moon Patrol thing just now. I don't know what put me

post three: galloping horsey and now 12 layers of parallax

Lots has happened recently to keep me busy, mostly away from the keyboard, so no time for anything on game until tonight, although I did think up some requests for RB+ instruction naming and reported a bug in one of the demo routines.   So this evening I've added some parallax foreground layers, thanks to some tips on sub-pixel value management and a spare hour when not feeling sorry for myself due to manflu - so that's 7 looping foreground slices of turf, which makes it look less like a horse

post two: amazing horse

What I like about RB+ so far is the rapid prototyping possibilities with little or no effort (or even code - I'll come to that!). An idea + assets + filling in a few blanks = things begin to take shape quickly. It almost feels like cheating and that's why I'm enjoying it so much.   So the first build is complete and I've included it with this post. Actually it's the second build, but the first one wasn't much to look at or talk about.   Take a look and I'll explain a little about what you'll

post one point one

So here's a bit more background...     I took a look at RB+ a week or so ago. After a little play around this is what I did: I asked a few dozen questions, I reported a bug or two, I received updates and some helpful tech support. This resulted in me having just enough knowledge to go about making things appear on the Jaguar's screen - in this case a kind of dumbed-down demo effect that's usually done on the pixel level, but I implemented using Jaguar objects (sprites). It's nothing special,

Purpose of this blog: To casually document my progress (should there be any) as I attempt to create my first "real" game.   Personal background:   Code: None*   Art: Pixel artist of 25+ years, Atari ST, Falcon, Jaguar. That's what I do in my off hours. Sometimes.   Music: lol, kind of.   So the blog is here for maybe a number of reasons... to help motivate me to continue, to help distract me when I'm stuck, and to give an idea of how easy it might be to make Jaguar games in 2015 for a
