Polaris (Tigervision)

OOH! Now here's a treat! Polaris... Wow what a game, It's gotta be one of my favorites for the system... Polaris is a submarine shooting game with other elements thrown in for good measure. Out of all the games that Tigervision published for the 2600 it's a near tie for me between this game and Jawbreaker as my favorite, but I think Polaris just beats it out. Now Tigervision, who were a subsidiary of Tiger Electronics, have put out some of the rarest and most expensive games on the 2600, thankfu

Strategy X (Konami)

Well now.. here's an odd one, Strategy X... What to say about it? Well... it was one of the three games made for the 2600 by Konami. It was only after browsing on Amazon for a very long time did I find this game, and I admit that I was very intrigued. I know of Konami's arcade history and I know that they have made some of the greatest retro games of all time... But how does Strategy X stand up to this history? Well... It kinda falls flat on it's face and it falls hard. But first a little info,

Tutankham (Parker Brothers)

Hmm... Now here's a game that definitely would have benefited from some more powerful hardware, that's why they made versions for the Colecovision and Intellivision, unfortunately both of those versions are very expensive, the Intellivision version in particular. But we're lookin' at the Atari 2600 port of the game, which is by far the most inferior port. I am rather indifferent to this game in all honesty. It does have positives which deserve recognition and it also has negatives which need a l

Space Cavern (Apollo)

While Space Cavern can only really be considered an 'Average' game, I find that it's actually kinda good, at least for Apollo. It's nothing too special just a guy running around on a rather cool gradient floor shootin' monsters... Huh? What? those aren't monsters? they're... *picks up manual* Electrosauri... whose horns generate.. uh... electr-ro molecular charges capable of disintegrating you? Huh... Well, it seems that more effort was placed into writing the story and drawing the box art than

Spacechase (Apollo)

I don't like this game, I REALLY don't like this game. This game takes the standard Space Invaders/Gorf/Galaxian move-around-on-the-bottom-of-the-screen-and-shoot-things affair and makes it worse. You fly your blue Christmas tree around the bottom of the screen and shoot enemy ships. That. Is. IT. Unlike Space Invaders which had impending doom as the enemy ships moved closer to the bottom of the screen and speed up as more of them were destroyed. Unlike Galaxian with enemies dive bombing you, or

Wizard of Wor (CBS)

Wizard of Wor has got to be one of the best arcade ports on the 2600. Joe Hellesen and Joe Wagner have created a 4 kilobyte masterpiece. With smooth game play responsive controls and coop game play Wizard of Wor is a hard game to dislike. I've gotta be honest... I like this game, a LOT. It falls easily in my top 5 games for the system. And weirdly enough I can't really find any negatives with this game... Sure it doesn't have the Wizard of Wor taunting you from offscreen like in the arcade but t

This is a Blog

Hello this is a blog... in this blog I will review things. I did not say that I would review them well or completely, I just want to. If grammar is a sticking point for you then turn away now. I'm a fan of run-on sentences, commas, and ellipses... so viewer beware. I have a lot of games and a lot of opinions about said games. I will try to post a review every couple of days. I've got, like, all of these games and then some.. reviewing them will give me an excuse to actually play them.
