Bugs about bugs
So I've been working on Insecticide again after nearly four months of not working on it. I finally took the plunge and am going to design my own sprites. I figure if the guy who used to doesn't have much time to, and I have all the time in the world, that it would be better if I did it, even though mine are, let's just say, lacking in the quality department. At least they're my own, and I'm beginning to grow used to it. Things that are next to do here are these:
+ compose and program in music for credits sequence. (not really a necessary thing to do, so I may hold off on that for a bit.)
+ design a sprite for Behe-Moth. This is one I'm really anxious to do. It took 4 hours to finally get Gi-Ant to not have floating specks around him when he jumps, but now that I have Gi-Ant done, I think I can use the Gi-Ant as sort of a template for the other ones.
+ design Gi-Ant's arena. I don't know why, but I started with Rumblebee's. Must be because I found that honeycomb design that I wanted to use. It's still in the background, deeper in the other background.
So all in all, I worked on this for like 4-5 hours and all I have to show for it is what I had before, only with different sprites. But that's OK, since I got rid of most (all?) of the bugs/glitches. I even put it on my FlashBoy and tested it there. Everything seems to be OK, except for a tiny slowdown whenever you jump or punch, which I think was there the last time. The real challenge is going to be enemy AI. But I'll get to that when I'm done with all the other stuff. And I'm glad I did this instead of my other fighting program I had in mind: Super Highway Fighter. Two guys duking it out on a highway. Not only are you fighting, but you need to dodge the semi trucks that come by. I think that would be too hard to program now that I think about it. So all in all, I hope to have at least a 4MB game when I'm done, which is the size of Mario's Tennis and Panic Bomber. I'm not going to use 8MB size unless I need to. I want to see how much I can fit in 4MB. (Did I mention this is a Virtual Boy game? I hope you knew that.) I know, the VB has Teleroboxer, but this is more of a Mortal Kombat/Killer Instinct fighter, which I'm wondering why I am programming a fighter, seeing as how I don't know how to play them. I have an extra Mario's Tennis I plan on putting Insecticide on when it's done. I already have a GoSub cart. But with Insecticide, it really needs a fancy label. GoSub has no label. I know what it is because I know that GoSub is the only VB game I have with no label.
