Atari on the Dreamcast is awesome!
I am posting this just in case there are others out there who might have trouble figuring out how to use Stella DC to play 2600 games on the Dreamcast. Because, trust me, it is totally worth it. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the author has updated the web site in a while, and if you skim over the directions it's not entirely clear how things work (if you are a dummy like me). First, download from http://svolli.de/software/dcstella/Then get your ROMs together. One thing I made sure to do, and I'm so glad I did it, is name the homebrew ROMs something like "05_gamename". This way they are all at the top of the ROM list, for easy play! I did not bother with generating a ROM list; I know what they are from the filenames. Then just make a folder in the DC Stella folder, and name it "roms". Dump your ROMs in there. This was the part I had trouble with, because I did not understand the whole concept of the "dcstella.ini" file, which you can actually tweak to your liking in any text editor. Anyway, the default directory listed in this file is "roms", so that's the one to stick with! Makes it nice and easy. Then, just burn however you normally make dreamcast disks, and you can try out all the latest and greatest homebrews on a console! Be sure to read the README file before trying to play games--it tells you how to start ones that require more than just a push of the button (it's the Right trigger+the X button to select a game). Now my question is: how do I make a 2600 joystick work with the Dreamcast? There must be a way! My dream is of some sort of Frankenstein joystick that uses the Dreamcast pad and had a NES pad and Atari joystick connected. Maybe even some sort of adapter that lets you plug in whatever joystick you want. That would be nice, too. Anyway, if you like classic games and have limited space, picking up a Dreamcast is a fabulous idea.
