355 days of Giuseppe
Well, I've worked on Super Giuseppe for about a year now. I'm counting the times I've just given up on it but had an urge to finish the game. Well, the game is in level order now. Level 1 goes to level 2, which goes to level 3, which goes to level 4. Took me at least a few days of trying to code it just right so it does that. Looking back on Giuseppe, this is what it looked like when it was first being worked on:
And here's what it looks like now.
Level 2 had its share of changes. Originally it was a level where you fall down a hole avoiding enemies. People said that was kinda boring so I changed it to a swimming level. People still say it's still kind of boring, but I don't want to change it, so I'll leave it as is.
Level 3 is where you fly a helicopter shooting at birds, while level 4 is the castle. Gee, for a game that takes so little time to play, you'd think it wouldn't have been worked on for a whole year, but it's true.
And the game still isn't finished, mind you. There's still a nagging problem about the game over and the color of the "SELECT GAME" screen after you get a game over. Right now, it's the color of the background of the level that you died in. I want to change it to all black like it is in the beginning, but I don't know how. I've tried myself but can't do it. When that problem is solved, I'll test it on real hardware and see if there's any problems with it running on real hardware. The total size of the game is 8k. I don't know how that will impact its chances of getting published. And I don't want a "Videopac" or "Odyssey 2" style label/manual. I want to go a different way and come up with something original. I just feel that the Videopac and Odyssey 2 styles have been done to death with Odyssey 2 homebrews. Plus, I don't want guys from Europe thinking they have to get a version they don't want or have them choose between two labels for what is essentially the same game. Something like Revival Studios' label would be cool. But perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself here...
