Googling Action Max

Dr Manhattan's status post was weird. It mentioned a system I never knew existed. So I Googled it. Action Max is a gaming system that uses the VCR and was released about the same time as the NES (1987.) I actually had an ad for it on one of my old tapes. It's at the 3:16 mark at this YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HI_CIGzCyU How odd is that?! I was wondering if this could be a system to make homebrew games for, but I have conflicting reports. Wikipedia says:

"The console can also work with any filmed footage properly formatted to function with the console's light gun."

While a comment from someone who actually has two of these consoles said:

"I have two of these things and they can be easily recreated by getting out any kind of gun and pointing it at the screen shooting anything that moves. Yeah its that bad. Its so bad its very very bad."

So I don't know. I now want one just to see how bad it is for myself. The YouTube video has footage of a kid playing a flying and shooting game. Yes, I apparently know that all the games were shooting games.

Yes it's bad. Nice nostalgic 80's item but BAD. I had one in original box with 4 tapes but it's been over 10 years ago I believe.

aahh, GI Joe : leather, leather leather, mustache. So manly.

Wonder if Action Max was released in PAL countries. Never saw one of these anywhere in yard sales.
