Wii-U Want

I have just discovered a game I want that is coming out for the Wii-U. Rayman. Apparently Ubi Soft is done porting Rayman 2 to every single possible new system and worked on a new one. I'm not a big Rayman fan, mind you, just a guy who wants something new for my Wii-U that is (literally) collecting dust. The last time I played it was when Game & Wario was new. I quit playing it for some reason. I should get back into playing the thing. It will apparently be a collectors item (or something) because they're apparently not going to make the basic unit any more. Only the deluxe version. I am wondering what the SD port is for if not to save game data. I can only get so many games on my launch day basic Wii-U before I use up all its memory. This is part of the reason I only have four games. I was thinking about getting Pikmin 3, but decided against it, partly due to that reason (Pikmin 2 uses a whopping 27 Game Cube memory blocks, I can only imagine what Pikmin 3 would take up), and partly due to the fact that it was $60. Other games I want this year that are supposedly coming out is DKC Returns: Tropical Freeze and the Super Mario 3D game that is like Super Mario 3D Land for the 3DS. What I'm really looking forward to is Mario Kart 8, but that's in 2014.

The SD port is for the original Wii backwards compatibility mode. You can save downloadable original Wii titles (like Virtual Console or WiiWare releases) to the SD card. For the Wii U, to address your space constraints issue, invest in an external USB hard drive. That will solve your problem there.

Do you download your Wii U games? If not, I don't know what the space problem is. You only have four games because of it? This doesn't make any sense unless you are strictly downloading your games. Game saves generally aren't very large, and patches aren't large either. You only have to worry about space constraints if you plan on downloading titles from the e-Shop, especially full version retail games.

OK, I didn't know how big the save states were. Like I said before, I don't have the deluxe model, just the smaller basic one. I don't download my games, I don't know how.

You pretty much have nothing to worry about then. Your 8GB will be plenty if you are not downloading stuff.

(PS: To buy and download games, you go to the eShop).

Rayman Origins for PS3 is amazing, especially multiplayer. Definitely invest in Rayman Legends. If you don't like it, I'll buy it from you.

Wii U is going to carry some excellent titles in the next year, you mentioned a few already. I personally believe Mario Kart 8 is going to be the best racer in recent memory -- a cross between WipEout on PS1 and Mario Kart on 3DS. It looks incredible, to boot. I'm sure DKC will be dynamite, as well.

Plenty to look forward to.

Legends seems to be the best version on the Wii U as the controls were meant for it.

As far as the HDD, it's not as bad as you think to get one. I got a MyBook (Western Digital) 320GB HDD used at a local place here for only 25 bucks, and it works great. It even matches my deluxe as it's the same shiny black plastic with the same "Wii blue" light in the front. I shouldn't have issues with save space ever again.
