Black Gold
A year or two ago, I decided I was going to buy a bunch of movies to make fun of, like MST3K, only with me. Well I did one, and then lost interest. But seeing as how MST3K is at its 25th anniversary, paired with another AAer's "Bad Movie Night" (I forget who at the moment), I thought I could riff on the movies I bought. So with my trusty voice recorder, I riffed the 1936 film Black Gold. I have nowhere to post this since the MP3 ended up being 25MB and my website there's a 5MB limit (too low!), so for now I'll keep it on my computer. Black Gold is 53 minutes long, and much shorter than, say, Giant. It's about oil. Also, it featured "Snowflake," an African-American stereotypical (of the times) comic relief guy. With the scenes with him I felt like I was watching Birth of a Nation. The next one I'm going to do tomorrow night is called The Last Alarm. This one must be the one I watched, it's opened. The other ones I have to watch are "Dark Mountain" and "Romance on the Run." I also am mulling about doing "The Amazing Transparent Man" and "Beast of Yucca Flats," but MST3K did those and I've seen them already, so I don't know. Not that it matters much since I have no way to upload 25MB files to my website. Do you know what Alpha Films does? They put bugs on old movies like they were the ones that made them. I don't think that's right or fair since they didn't make the movies, just distributed them. But what do I know, they could be in the public domain or something. All 6 of the movies I mentioned are under an hour long. This is because I don't have a very long attention span. They should make movies nowadays this short. I would actually go to the movie theater and sit through one 60-minute-long movie if it didn't have sex in it. But, again, what do I know?
