I know nobody cares, but...
So I went to Fred Meyer on Sunday and found the first issue of a new variety puzzle magazine called "Will Shortz's Word Play." It has a puzzle type that I like to do - Rows Garden. So I copied it and did the copy. It took me all day. Part of the trouble was I thought the Steinbeck novel set in Monterrey (2 words) was Cannery Row. As it turned out, it was actually "Tortilla Flat." And I know this only because I Googled it. I also used Wikipedia and the online dictionary tons of times on this one. And I never heard of the Steinbeck novel Tortilla Flat. But it was the most devious puzzle I ever did - and I finished it. I didn't look at the answers, though I'm pretty sure I got everything correct. This led me to make my own Rows Garden - something I hadn't done in about a year (and I only had done three.) Six hours later, I had a finished Rows Garden puzzle. This led me to go to the Aries Puzzle site which was dead last time, but to my surprise, he started it back up. Only this time it has a subscription! Argh! But it was a set-your-own price. So I subscribed, sent him $2.50 for a 2014 subscription. I felt bad about putting the amount in so low, so I donated another $2.50. So it's $5. I don't know what to do when someone offers a price like that. It angers me. So starting next Tuesday, I will be getting a bi-weekly Rows Garden puzzle in my inbox to print and solve. And I will make more Rows Garden puzzles. You can view the ones I made here: http://www.atari2600land.com/crosswords/rowsgarden.html
So anyway, I'm glad I got in the Word Play magazine from the very beginning. This means I will have a complete library of puzzles I can do over and over again if I copy them instead of fill them in the book. Basically the magazine is all Games' "Pencilwise" section, sans crosswords.
