Mattel vs. Atari
I have an Intellivision II. Since the picture on it is fuzzy, I don't play it that often. But when I do, it makes me angry that I can't play Coleco games on it. Unfortunately, some of what I want was made by Coleco. Why did Mattel lock out Coleco games for the second model? Why didn't Atari? You'd think more games for a system would make the demand for the console higher. For instance, what if, in some alternate reality, LadyBug was the most popular game. Many people would want to play it. But if you bought an INTV 2, Mattel would have to say Sorry, SOL. You can only play OUR games, instead of reaping the MONEY that gamers would have spent to get an INTV so they could play LadyBug. It just perplexes me. Another thing: Game Genie. I loved as a kid being able to get unlimited lives on Super Mario Bros. So why did Nintendo frown on that idea? You'd think since games would be easier that more people would want to play them and Nintendo would make money BECAUSE of the Game Genie's existence. I guess video game console makers keep making bad ideas and lose money. Is there any video game console maker that actually listens to what gamers have to say, or is it all just a big money making racket now?
