Super Mario 64
There is no more time for Klax. I just got Klax for Game Gear in the mail today. The game works OK, but the gameplay itself is too hard. It would have been OK to just leave the amount of colors at 4 or even 5, but the fact that there are more than a dozen? And only a 25 space hole? Are we sure the creators of the game are not insane? I got to wave 12 and it told me to get 13 diagonals. Well, I tried and tried but couldn't. Part of the reason was the stupid d-pad kept reading left or right as UP and that makes the Klax block go back up on the grid, leaving me with three pieces coming at me fast and not being able to catch them all and so one drops. And with only a three drop limit, well, you get the picture. At least the colors are easier to differentiate on the Game Gear screen. And I decided to work on Super Mario 64 2600 again. I got disgruntled with the way it was acting so I gave up. Well, I returned to it today and got the stupid thing to be good to me. So now you can go left some more past the coin. What is past the coin? A wall. This time it's a horizontal wall, not like the vertical wall that begins the level. And what's more, if the game continues to be good, I plan to add a bob-omb at the wall. Not that I have very much room in level 1's bank. I only have about 400 bytes left to work with there. But I think I can make a level 2. I decided it will be the Ghost House. Yes. You run around the Ghost House trying to find the star. But I'm getting ahead of myself. I first need to program the star in level 1 to get. I know this isn't how the actual Super Mario 64 is played. There are 7 stars per level. Well, I doubt the Atari 2600 can handle 7 stars times 15 levels. So I'm going to skip a few levels. I will put the entry to the Ghost House on the right door once you get inside the castle. What will be in the middle door? A room with three doors for two or three more levels (hopefully.) Once you get the five stars, the game will automatically go to a Bowser level. And then you'll have to survive an obstacle course before the big fight with Bowser. That will be a challenge programming grabbing him by the tail and swinging him around. If there is enough room for the data. I'll probably have to make this game be 64k and call it Super Mario 64k. But I'm getting way way way way way ahead of myself here. First I need to finish programming level 1. By the way, I don't plan on selling the game. I learned that from the Princess Rescue debacle. This is just for fun. And if I do finish it, I'll only get two carts made. One for me. Who gets the other? Stay tuned...
