The DS in 2014

I thought the only DS game released in 2014 was "Lego Friends". Apparently the game is for lonely tween girls. But I went to Wal-Mart and saw another DS game: "Big Hero 6", apparently based on the 2014 movie. I did not know about this game that came out last year. So that makes two. And here I thought the Frozen and the Barbie games in November 2013 were going to be the last DS releases. So the DS lasted 9 years, unless there's an official DS game coming out this year (I doubt it.) This is reminding me that I need to work on my DS game even though I probably will never see it on an actual DS. So anyway, RIP Nintendo DS (2004-2014). Man that's a long time. The Big Hero 6 movie came out on November 6, 2014, so perhaps it's almost 10 years! These will remain unopened though. There is a big round purple sticker on Big Hero 6's packaging. I wonder why. I also wonder why they even bothered with a DS version, seeing as how it was dead for about 6 months after "Lego Friends" came out. So that was interesting to find. For the record, the Big Hero 6 game's full name is "Big Hero 6: Battle In the Bay."

Nah, the DS isn't dead - it lives on even in the "new 3DS XL" (as opposed to the GBA, which died with the DSi). So there's logic for companies to keep making DS games - it maximizes the number of possible buyers while minimizing the development costs.

And just look at these last few releases - licensed shovelware; exactly the kind of "game" which needs to minimize development costs (the license is probably the majority of the cost) and maximize the number of suckers who might buy it.

There were 154 million DSs made versus 50 million 3DSs; so by making a DS version they quadruple the potential number of buyers - probably without significantly increasing the development & licensing costs. (And I didn't mean to imply you are a sucker - you're a collector.)
