Irides: Master of Blocks

OK, I wondered what I was going to experience a Dreamcast homebrew. Didn't expect the system to not recognize it at first. I put the game in, pressed POWER and up came the Dreamcast menu. I selected "play" and the Dreamcast rebooted and I finally got the Dreamcast screen along with a message telling me the software is not authorized by Sega. I knew that, Sega, but thanks for telling me anyway. So then after playing, I finally got why they named the game Irides. The game is basically a Dreamcast version of Lumines! And Irides is a takeoff of iridescent, or, luminescent! The box tells it will work in any MIL-CD Dreamcast. I guess I have an MIL-CD Dreamcast because it worked. I don't know what a non-MIL-CD Dreamcast is, though. So I played it for about 10 minutes. It is a bit annoying that there is no play-until-you-die mode. It's level clearing (meeting goals) or nothing. So what do I think? I think it is an excellent homebrew effort. If it wasn't for the fact that the DC told me, one might just as well think it's an actual DC release. Except for the fact that it took 26 blocks on a new VMU, and the VMU still displayed the "i'm empty" logo on the VMU screen! The Dreamcast needs more puzzle games. I am just wondering why they didn't use the standard Dreamcast packaging. I doubt Sega would have minded or cared, since they're not developing any more DC games. Heck, I think they abandoned it too early. But why did Sega quit making consoles? I think they about had it when the DC was a failure and gave up. And they probably didn't have any money to make a followup console. Which scares me that I might have to play some future incarnation of a Nintendo game on a Sony or Microsoft console.
