Game Genie works, I don't

So I got a Game Gear Game Genie in the mail today. The first game I tried it on is Sonic 2. As it turns out, even with it on and working, I still can't get past the level 1 boss. Argh! Once I got through one set of big bouncy gray balls, Dr. Robotnik zoomed up and killed me. I have decided to just give up and quit trying because I will never, ever beat it. Even if you gave me a million years to live, and I tried every day, I couldn't beat it. WHY DID THEY HAVE TO MAKE IT SO F&*%ING HARD?!?!?!?!? At least the bright side to all this is along with the Game Genie came Tails Adventure, so I don't have to search for that any more. I got the whole package (Game Genie, Tails Adventure, Sonic 2, and Ms. Pac-Man) for the usual price of just Tails Adventure alone. But this means I have extras of Sonic 2 and Ms. Pac-Man. (Sonic 2 is the Game Gear's version of Combat. I never really understood why. Why not the first Sonic?) I want to leave the Game Genie in, but I'm wondering if I can use it with the Everdrive. I don't want to break my Everdrive because it cost $80. Anyway, so now I'm up to 90 Game Gear games not counting the Game Genie, because it technically isn't really a game.

I hated that 1st stage boss in Sonic 2. You have to dodge those bouncy bomb. On Game Gear small screen, it's tough. I do wished that they would give you some rings to give you an extra hits. Maybe there's a game genie code that let you start off in levels with rings. I don't recall there being a code, but I did have game genie for game gear.

Sonic 2 is the only Game Gear Sonic platformer game I never beaten. Tail's Adventure should be fun and easy. It forces you to explore the levels to find treasure or power-up that helps you on your adventure. It's like a Metroid game, where you find weapon or power up to help you on your quest. It does have password save. I do hope you do enjoy this one. I only borrowed that game like 15-20 years ago and only had one item, I couldn't find, left to collect. It is my favorite Game Gear game.

You can use it with an Everdrive...

Here are 2 versions level select cheat that does not require a game genie. Good luck!

Level Select

To unlock level select, push the d-pad LEFT at the opening intro (the one that says "Sega") then simultaneously press button-1 and button-2 when Tails winks his eye the third time. Now push Start.

Level Select

On the title screen, hold Left+Down on the D-Pad as well as the A and B buttons. When you see Tails blink for the third time (he first blinks one time, then two times quickly), press Start on the *third* time while his eye is closed. If done correctly, you will reach the level select screen.
