Hamburgers level 1 completed.

So last night I went to work adding in the boss part of the stage.

I went back and fixed a bug that happened when you just start out I must have introduced somehow. So now with that fix, I have the "engine" mostly completed. I'll add little bits of code as the game progresses to make stuff harder, like the milkshake's ability to shoot out onion rings. The int main_game (working in C here) has about 250 lines. I tried to compress it, but I'll try to more later. For now I need to test this on a real Virtual Boy, which I will probably do tomorrow. I have 2 MB to work with for now, but I want to push it up to 4 MB so it can be at least as big as Mario's Tennis and Panic Bomber, two commercial releases.

Most of the game's size I figure will be used to hold graphics. So this is only day 4 of working on this, and I already got one level and the main code in. I think that's pretty good for only 4 days. Too bad I'm not being paid for this. It's amazing what you can accomplish when all your time is free time. Tomorrow what I want to have happen:

  • Make sure game works okay on real VB
  • Design level 2 (Red City at Night)

Any help on the second one would be very much appreciated. I'm imagining something looking like Las Vegas since I only have 3 shades of red and black to work with. And it should be one 384x244 image that can loop seamlessly. I can convert colors to VB-only colors with VIDE, so it can be as colorful as you want, but in the end it will be reduced to 3 shades of red and black.
