Thanks, David.

Looking at these lists, the 6502 was really the king of 8bit CPUs.

Also, I was surprised to find that the 65c816 was used in something (major) besides the SNES.

I'd think it should be on par with the Z80. A few popular Z80 machines you're missing:

MSX 2, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance (for GB/GBC compatibility), Game Gear (mostly Master System compatible), The whole series of Amstrad CPCs, Segas SG-1000 & SC-3000, Bally Astrocade...

Even the C128 has one for its CPM mode and also the Genesis has one for Audio processing

BTW: did you ever try "Kaitei Takara Sagashi" on MAME? Your Go Fish Kernel should be almost there :)

Z80 seems to be very popular with handhelds. Of course, once Nintendo chose it for the GB that locked it in for the next 10 years in the GB series. How come they chose the Z80 instead of the 6502? Probably would have made porting SMB, Zelda, etc. games much easier, I imagine, if they had used the 6502. Anybody know? And speaking of handhelds, what is in the Lynx?

BTW: did you ever try "Kaitei Takara Sagashi" on MAME? Your Go Fish Kernel should be almost there :P

Never seen that before; thanks for the heads-up! Pretty cool...hmmmm.

Have to add a boat to the top of the kernel, but wouldn't be too hard, just change wave graphic to a boat and make it player-controlled. Add treasures to bottom of the screen; no problem I think - just add players (are there ever more than six treasures?) to the "sand" area of the kernel. Make all fish the same. Change player-controlled sprite to a man with a long tether. Major kernel change would be adding the harpoon. Hmmm...probably want to add more (rows of) fish, also. Maybe not.

Might be a fun minigame project next year for the 1K contest. Cut out music, title screen, and all the different-sized fishes' graphics and it would be easily under 4K, be fun to see how much I'd have to cut to get it under 1K.

EDIT: Also could widen playable screen since I would no longer have to mask quadrupled players off the screen.

EDIT II: Just realized that David is claiming the 8080 for the Gameboy and you claim the Z80 - which is it? Or am I missing something...
