bBasic Problem

I enjoy making games for Batari Basic, but I'm beginning to feel that I should keep them to myself. All these games I've been making are cheap imitations of real ones. It's just with over 900+ titles (or however many of them there are), the Atari 2600 is a really difficult system to try to make new games for. The truth is, I have a few ideas for games, but can't be pulled off with Atari 2600. When Donkey Kong Country was new, I designed a 6-world platform video game. Same goes for Super Mario 64. I've thought of new weapons for Mario Kart that aren't even in the DS version. The only thing I haven't acted upon is the really stupid video game idea about being in a supermarket and ramming into people with your shopping cart on purpose, because I know that I always want to do that. Maybe I should just give Batari Basic up and play the games that other people make/made because, when it comes right down to it, I don't really have anything all that new to offer in the world of Atari 2600 games.

You're right that it can be very difficult to come up with a truely new idea. When I started Skeleton, I thought I had created something truely unique - a first person 3-D maze game for the 2600. Of course, I wasn't the first, see "Escape from the Mindmaster" and "Merlin's Walls".

But that's not to say there's anything wrong with taking an old idea and making it your own. The question is whether your game is fun to play.
