After playing vdub_bobby's prototype, I wondered if I could recreate this game using Batari BASIC. The result: Quandor. It flickers, so taking a picture of this game would be like taking a picture of Pac-Man. But here it is, and here are the instructions. Note that this is a work-in-progress.

-----------------------

Quandor instructions.

At the title screen (which says Quandor), with the left difficulty switch you can choose the speed in which your character goes. A for fast and B for slow. Press fire to start.

Don't run into the colored things (these are called Quandors.) If you do, you lose a life. You have 3 lives. Once you make it to the end of the line on the right, you start on the next line up on the left, working your way to the right, like in Freeway. But once you start up, the only way to stop is to go to either side. So, in effect, you're always moving either right (or left) because there's no brakes on your little Adventure-type block. To start a new game at any time during a game, flip the reset switch and you'll be back at the title screen. When the game is over (or you reset during the game), it will go back to the title screen and the # of points of your last game will be displayed.

-----------------------

As you can see from the instructions, it's a little different from vdub_bobby's game (is it called "Got It Maid," because that would be a cool name) in which you a.) start over from the left once you get to the right - b.) there's no timer, but c.) there are lives.

Definitely an improvement in gameplay.

But the flicker really hurts. :lust:

BTW: The right one also seems to flicker between white and yellow.

Thanks for the feedback! :lust: I know the flicker is like something found in Pac-Man, but I just don't know how to create 5 moving things without it. And you can't draw sprites very good with the playfield in Batari Basic, because the playfield in Basic is just a bunch of blocks, and that wouldn't look good, either. The playfield would have to look something like this:

..XXX...XXX...XXX...XXX...XXX..

..XXX...XXX...XXX...XXX...XXX..

..XXX...XXX...XXX...XXX...XXX..

And that's just if they're lined up. That, and the lines on the playfield now would disappear. I'm planning to change the quandors from just a bunch of lines to something that resembles a sprite from Space Invaders. (Of course the Qix from Qix is just a bunch of lines) Also, I think I will have them move at different speeds. BTW, Bobby's game is way cooler than this. This was just an experiment.
