Word Zapper - review
Spent the night at my dad's last night. I also went to see my grandpa. Both are veterans and yesterday was Veteran's Day, so I just thought it would be the right thing to do. Dad took me to Game Crazy where I got 4 NES games: Narc, Zanac, Top Player's Tennis and Shadowgate. I get my stitches out from my wisdom teeth being pulled tomorrow. And here's the review of Word Zapper.
Word Zapper is a game in which you zap letters. That's right. You spell out words by zapping the letters in them. A through Z and a finish symbol scroll over and over again. And, there are these red things that you have to watch out for. If you touch a red thing, the game is over. In some variations, you have to zap the red things in order to get the finish symbol to appear. You shoot the finish symbol when you're done spelling out a word. If you touch anything besides one of those red things, it just disorients your ship a little bit. There is a time limit, but no penalty for zapping a letter not in your word (given to you before each round.) Harder game variations are just a sequence of letters that aren't words (which is really hard because they're harder to memorize.) Status of your word zapping is shown at the bottom of the screen. Question marks indicate letters you haven't zapped yet. These words can be anywhere between four and six letters long. So, do you learn anything by zapping the letters? Is it an educational game? No. It's just a letter zapping game in case you got bored zapping aliens. To zap anything besides letters, pull the joystick in the direction you want to shoot and press fire. To zap letters, just press fire. Is it fun? Sure, it's fun, and some of the game variations are downright challenging, but if you're playing this game for the first time, I recommend either game 1 or 2. In game 1, the finish symbol is there from the start and in game 2 you have to zap a red thing in order to get it to appear. The red things come by less often than the other things, which as I mentioned earlier are just there to get you off-balance in case you touch it. All in all, not a bad game.
