Hi there!

So did anyone ever hear the term "Retrotronics"?

It's occasionally used here in Germany to describe a certain kind of popular Clubsound. It's 80's style analog minimal electronic music, done with C64s, Amigas, Moogs and stuff. It's so incredibly oldskool, there's no chance to not love it

Here's a couple videos so you get the idea:

Ladytron / Playgirl

Console - 14 Zero Zero

Fisherspooner / Emerge (loong intro, but killer song!)

I-F / Space Invaders are Smoking Grass

Zombie Nation / Kernkraft 400

Greetings,

Manuel

Thanks for the links, that's some good stuff! I just nabbed Ladytron's album 604 off iTunes after checking out the video for Playgirl. The 20 track album goes for $9.99.

I discovered Fisherspooner 1 1/2 years ago via the mash-up We Need a Filthy War by DJ Earworm where he mashes together music by Fischerspooner, Scissor Sisters, Chemical Brothers, Pet Shop Boys, Edwin Starr and Culture Club. Have you heard Fisherspooner's Mega Colon? I never would have thought I'd have a 5 star song in my playlist about constipation :)

Another favorite mash-up by DJ Earworm is Don't Mess with Orgasmatron(and yes, there's explicit content in this one). This one combines music from Eurythmics, Avenue D, Mousse T. and Anthony Rothe.

I'll check your other links tomorrow - it's time for bed :)

Wow, that one is pretty cool!

I must confess I didn't even know that a new album was out :)

Just had their myspace selection ( http://www.myspace.com/ladytron ) running, the other songs didn't sound familiar either. Definitely time to update! :D

A pity on the missed gig! That should've been a cool show!

Speaking of which, I'm missing a Crüxshadows show while typing this, they're playing in Augsburg right now... Well, I can check out their current myspace selection at least: http://www.myspace.com/cruxshadows Even my favourite "Deception" is there :ponder:

Yeah, it was at a small venue - would have been really fun. I used to have a plug-in for iTunes that would compare the artists with concerts in your area and let you know who was playing. Forgot to reinstall it when I did a clean install of Leopard, I'll have to see if I can't track that down again.

Also recently found

from down under.

Here's a real treasure from 1980. It's a single from Daniel Miller, the founder of Mute Records, the label of Depeche Mode:

The B-Side was "Warm Leatherette". It's also on Youtube, but with a selfmade video:

This is the original BTW, Duran², Grace Jones and others just covered it.

Another brilliant version, with NINs Trent Reznor and Bauhaus' Peter Murphy on vocals:

I need to stop browsing "related" videos... look at this amazing rendition of "Bela Lugosi's Dead", by Reznor/Murphy

Ah yes, The Normal - used to listen to "Warm Leatherette" in the clubs in Houston in the late 80s. Have an MP3 of it :ponder: Didn't know it had been covered. Never heard TVOD before, pretty good.

Tracked down iConcertCal and have it installed it again.

Yep, the US is pretty spread out. That's something I've noticed a lot of Europeans don't seem to realize. One friend in Detroit had some visitors from Europe who thought they could hop in the car for a day trip to Disney World - they were shocked to discover what they thought to be a 1-2 hour drive was more like 18 :ponder:

Going by night train is an excellent idea! It'd even make sense to spend a complete week of vacation on the west coast, since The Damned are playing no less than six shows in California:

OCTOBER 2008

Tue 28 Slims San Francisco

Wed 29 Blank Club San Jose

Thu 30 House Of Blues Anaheim

Fri 31 House Of Blues Hollywood

NOVEMBER 2008

Sat 01 House Of Blues San Diego

Sun 02 Velvet Jones Santa Barbara

An overnight train would do it then.

Assuming you still have them in the USA.

Amtrak service from Houston (HOS) to San Diego(SAN) is a 41 hour trip. Here's their route map.

Interesting - besides the expected Spanish, their site is available in German.

Wow -

- extremely cool video, as is the song itself. Just wish I could find a clearer version of the video.

I now have all 4 albums :ponder:

iTunes finally added Ladytron videos to the US store! Just Ghosts and Runaway (which I'd not seen before) so far.

Hopefully Destroy Everything You Touch will come soon, they have it in the UK store but I can't purchase from that one :(. I'd also love a cleaner version of the

video for Evil, the US version is just the band w/out the story.

Hm... so you can watch them on the iPhone? Or do you get the videos for free on iTunes?

You see, I'm totally clueless about Mac Universe... :(

$1.99 a video. I have a way to snag YouTube videos (that's what I've been using), but the picture and sound quality isn't that great.

I can watch them on the Mac (or PC - iTunes runs there as well), iPhone and even an iPod that I seldom use since getting the iPhone.

I could also watch them on my HDTV if I had an Apple TV. I would like one, but my HDTV only has 1 set of Component Video inputs for HD sources. My receiver has a built in 2 component switch that I currently use to get HD from my cable box and PS3.

I have MediaLink which lets my PS3 access its music, video and

on the Mac; however it can't play any of the iTunes Store videos - even if they're the unprotected "iTunes Plus".
