Life & Death (PC)
A cult classic that garners a lot of respect from both the PC and Amiga community, Life & Death is one of the few fun medical games out there. As the new specialist doctor in a busy hospital, you're charged with diagnosing and possibly operating on the various patients that you encounter. The game medically focuses on the abdominal area throughout the game, which is nice considering the most complicated thing you'll have to do is an appendicitis. Your responsibility is to diagnose your patients (with the help of the comprehensive manual) and decide what their treatment should be. If you diagnose correctly, you'll be commended, but if you screw up and let a patient die, it's back to med school for you. The best part of the game is the operations; sometimes, you'll diagnose a patient who requires an operation, and thus you'll have to do the honors. You get to pick four aides from a roster of doctors, and they will give you different types and subjects of advice based on their field of expertise (it's always nice to have an anesthesiologist on hand
). If you follow procedures correctly (using your mouse to select and use implements) and deal with any emergencies that arise, your patient will be cured and you'll get a nice pat on the back. Perform your duties correctly and you'll beat the game, but let your records go sour and you'll eventually be kicked out of the hospital. Life & Death is a fun, realistic game that was way ahead of it's time; be sure to check "Under The Radar" for this one, on both your Amiga and PC.
