Break It Up?
So I was at a record store today and noticed a few CDs with long songs I have on LPs. I was going to buy them until I realized they had broken the long songs up into three or four tracks. Needless to say, I was pretty angry and didn't buy them. But I wondered why do that? If I want to listen to The Fall of the House of Usher, I wouldn't want to start somewhere in the middle, I would want to start at the beginning and listen to the whole 15 minute song!
They weren't broken up on vinyl (TFOTHOU was one 15 minute long track on the Edgar Allan Poe album.) And does Karn Evil 99 really need to be broken up into 4 different tracks? I wanted to buy it because I've never heard it before, but not after they split it up. Maybe I'll go to a different one tomorrow and see if I can have success finding some long songs that *aren't* broken up into itty bitty pieces.
