The Wonders of GPS

So I'm cruising through Tennessee and I say to myself, "Self, I would really like some Chinese food." So I punch a few buttons on the GPS to search for restaurants. I limit the search to Chinese only and the GPS says, "well, I have bad news for you. The closest Chinese restaurant is 44 miles away, in Memphis." And I respond with, "you know what, that's okay. Take me there." So the GPS adds the address en route, and 44 miles later, I veer off the Interstate and stop at "Goodies Submarine Sandwiches and Chinese Food," less than half a mile from Graceland. I pick up some Egg Drop Soup and drink it on the road.

I will never, ever tire of playing with my GPS. And, I will never, ever take another road trip without one. Period.

This fall my son and I drove out to a scout camp a couple of hours drive away. I used Google maps to kick out directions which went via a bunch of rural roads. The scary thing was how accurate it was. If it said drive 8.6km and turn left, I'd just have to reset the trip odometer and start paying attention when it got to 8.5km for that left turn onto the next unmarked road.
