Aging...

I'm not sure what it is. I turn 30 in a couple of months, and frankly, I feel a lot older than that. Lately gaming has kind of fallen to the wayside in a sea of adult troubles and concerns, and frankly, it sucks. I just haven't been in the mood to play games like I used to. The last game I was really into was Mass Effect, and for good reason: the gameplay was deep, the story engrossing and the characters weren't a bunch of 17 year old teeny-boppers. I like RPG's, but I'd prefer them with real people, not a bunch of American Idol rejects. *SIGH* Where was I going? I'm even starting to rant like an old man...

Anyways, between my nephew wanting to play Wario Ware and some SNES ROMS given to me by a friend at work, I have managed to do a little playing this weekend, even though my mind has been somewhere else entirely.

Final Fantasy III by SquareSoft (SNES): Revisiting this one is kind of like dusting off a fondly-remembered book that you enjoy rereading every few years. Still a great game with an amazing soundtrack (especially considering the limitations of the SNES). I still consider this one the high-point of the series, because no other title since was ever able to get the character-development down as well as this one. One of the greatest games ever IMHO.

ActRaiser 2 by Enix (SNES): The first ActRaiser was half action-platformer (a la Castlevania), half God-sim. The second scraps the sim aspect and goes full-on Castlevania wannabe. It's a good game, but also an incredibly hard one.

Wario Ware: Smooth Moves (Wii): My nephew wanted to play this one today, so I dusted off the Wii and gave it a spin. Fun game, especially with other participants. Unfortunately it gets really, really old when playing alone.
