Memories of my grandfather
Since he died, and my topic in the "General Chat" forum seemed to think that I was sort of happy to see him go (as Andrew Davie pointed out), I'll share some memories of my grandparents.
-When I was young, when we lived in Keizer, my grandparents had a basement with a pool table. Man, I wish they didn't have to move. That's one of the reasons we moved, is because they did. Looking back, it doesn't make very much sense now. My whole family used the pool table. I remember learning how to play pool on that very table. I wonder if it's still there.
-When I was a kid, my grandparents took me out RVing. That was fun, the place had a pool and everything. I don't know if you've heard of Thousand Trails or not, but that's where we went, the one in Pacific City.
-I remember summer days being with my grandparents at that condo, and after school, too. I used to watch stuff like Cartoon Planet and Captain Planet, and other shows that didn't have the word Planet in them. And the bonding with my sister there. I remember bringing my SNES over there and playing it on a very small portable TV. At the time, I thought playing Super Mario World on a very small screen was very hard.
-Back at the actual house, my grandparents had a Zenith TV with a phone in it. Don't ask me why, but it did. Me and my sister used to bug Mom at work by calling her during summer.
-After schools (like in the first and second grades, etc.), I remember going to my grandparents' house and watching the Smurfs while eating neopolitan ice cream. I didn't really like the Smurfs all that much, but my sister must have.
-And then there was the time that Grandpa told me that he was friends with Johnny Carson in the Army during WWII. Neither Grandpa nor Johnny was actually fighting the war (he was stationed in Guam, if my memory served.) One time Grandpa asked Johnny if he was still doing magic tricks, and Johnny pulled a half-dollar coin out of his pants zipper. I thought that that was the coolest thing in the world, since my Dad taped all the Johnny Carson anniversary shows in the early 80's.
So there's proof right there that I miss him. RIP, Grandpa.
