Charlie Blast's Territory
I am going to review all the 32MB N64 games except Batman Beyond (because I don't have it yet.) First on the list (since I just got it in the mail today) is Charlie Blast's Territory.
Premise: Mr. Blast has to blow up boxes of TNT by connecting them to a red thing.
How it Plays: Charlie has to light the red thing (by pressing A) and then go away from it before it blows up. You can move everything around except rocks, potted plants, and orange things that come up from the ground and poke him in the butt. Charlie has an infinite health meter, so I don't know why they felt the need to put those in. You also get infinite attempts at each level. It's kind of like Chip's Challenge, only each level ends in an explosion. Ever play Ms. Pac-Man: Maze Madness (also for the N64) and got to the part where you need to run from the boxes of TNT before they explode? It's exactly like that.
Pros:
+ I thought the game was very entertaining. I liked the fact that it's a puzzle game and I like them. They're scarce on the N64.
+ It took very little trial-and-error to find out what to do without the instruction manual. Since most N64 games don't come with manuals any more, it is important to find out stuff like this.
Cons:
- Very awkward passwords. They are five playing cards. That's right. Playing cards. Instead of numbers or letters, you have to right down numbers and card suits.
- Every level begins with the camera wrapping around the level (think Mario Kart: Double Dash!!) before finally zooming into Charlie's immediate area. You can speed up the process, but cannot skip it entirely.
Final rating: 7/10. (8.5/10 for those who like puzzle games.)
