So why would I bother writing an entry about a generic vertical scrolling shmup like Zyron?

 

 

Because it was made in Germany

 

It really is nothing special. You just fly over this monotonous brown/yellow planet surface, shooting the usual enemy formations and ground targets, you've seen it in Xevious.

 

About the only gimmick it has is the ability to land in small repair hangars.

 

Just four levels into the game it's already over again:

 

 

Well, that's it. Nothing more to see. There's not even good music

 

Some future day the "Playing..." series may see a vertical shmup that is halfway interesting, but first to something completely different.
