Homebrew Fever!
After all the buying, I'm waiting like a kid at Christmas. When I moved, I sold a lot of my collection on eBay and decided to concentrate on my first video game love, the Atari 5200. So I ditched all the TI-99 stuff, the massive collection of obsolete computers, most of my duplicates, and couple of extra Intellivisions, etc. My PayPal balance swelled and I think I've made almost 10 bucks in interest on it! But that money started burning a hole in my pocket. You've heard about the Vectrex purchase. That was step 1. Then I got the idea that I should branch out my 5200 collection and start picking up the homebrews. And these suckers are expensive. Don't get me wrong--I'm not going to quibble over the price. I've looked at the programming manuals and my eyes glazed over after a paragraph or so. It's hard work to create these games. I've seen the beautifully printed booklets. I know the raw materials to make these suckers aren't cheap. And, most importantly, I am willing to pay 30-40 bucks apiece for the experience of opening a band new cartridge. Because I haven't had that experience in a LONG time! But let me tell you, I'm not going to make much interest on that PayPal balance anymore. And who knows what I'll have to throw on eBay so I can pay for Adventure II! I'd like to send big thanks to Bry and Al and all the homebrewers. What you guys do is imensely cool and it's an amazing contribution to this hobby. You have all my respect, and then some. I can't wait for my games.
