Hi there!

Ah, push it - Oooh, baby, baby - Baby, baby - Get up on this!

I was assuming tons of console ports of Soko-Ban must exist, but to my surprise the only official one is Boxxle for the old GG/GB bricks :-o

So once again the C64 version is it. Totally forgettable graphics and sonics aside this is probably one of the most fun puzzle games of all time :)

I assume everyone knows how it works, but just in case, your "mission" is to move all the boxes onto the squares with the round targets. In order to do so, you push them one square at a time, with a guy also occupying a square.

Sounds simple? It isn't. Without the aid of a difficulty ramp, it get's pretty challenging around the 2nd screen already ;)

I've played it a few times before, so knowing the first handful of screens I made it to the 11th tonight. I won't be able to keep this pace during the next days though, so most likely I won't make it through all 50 screens for this "Playing..." issue.

Greetings,

Manuel

I heard of this! I think I first saw it on Home of the Underdogs (which implies a PC port, but I wouldn't swear to it). It's my understanding that on some of the harder levels you have to think about 20-30 moves a head to move the boxes correctly. Freaky. Enjoying your "Playing..." series, by the way.

A PC CGA version definitely should exist, as it was reviewed in "Power Play" 1/88. I choose playing the C64 version though, since it's easier for me to run.

The puzzles are getting very hard, today I only figured out four of them, being stuck on #14 for a while.

Glad you enjoy reading those articles just like I'm enjoying the Chronogamer reports

Just a quick note that I beat two more screens last night. It seems the difficulty of the puzzles is rising from impossible to insane

I just couldn't force myself to play another Soko-Ban screen today, so I decided to just call it quits for this one

Some future day the "Playing..." series may see another puzzle game in the Form of "Bone Cruncher", but first it will continue with something else.
