Mario Kart 64

I first got Mario Kart 64 shortly after it came out (might have even been the first day, I don't remember), and I have been loving it ever since. Mario Kart DS came mighty close to surpassing it, but after a long absence of not playing Mario Kart 64, I thought I'd play it again after losing in Mario Kart Wii. Now I remember why I love Mario Kart 64 so much. No stupid ink covered screens, no stupid first-place shells blowing you up all the time, just good old-fashioned Mario Kart fun the way it was meant to be. All those stupid items gone more than makes up for the fact that you can't pick and choose which tracks you'd like to play (Mario Kart 64 has no 1-player Vs. mode.). I thought Mario Kart 64 was the best Nintendo 64 game ever, and now after getting into classic gaming more (Atari 2600, Lynx, Virtual Boy), and with the newer systems that came after (GameCube, Wii, DS), Mario Kart 64 has stood the test of time, and I'm naming it the best game ever made for any system ever.

The SNES version of Mario Kart (Super Mario Kart) is the best of all. The computer players in Mario Kart 64 cheat horribly - the computer can always catch you up (rubberband ai), and always gets the right power-ups.

In Super Mario Kart, the computer players always finish in the same positions, which is a bit predictable. At least in Mario Kart 64, you get a little bit more variety. I often wonder how they get through the train in Kalimari Desert when I'm not near it and they are, though. This is the reason why I slow down and wait for the train rather than beat it, because the other players would seem to go right through it rather than wait for it.
