I had all four of them pulled at once. Didn't eat anything for days except Ensure. Even then, I had to wash my mouth out with salt water. And then they had to make me have sutures, and then go back and take them out. It was a pain, but I guess it had to be done, otherwise, what's the point?

I had 3 of mine taken out in highschool many many years ago. First time had 2 taken out, then I had one. This last one wasn't ready to be taken out (still far under the gums) at the time so it was left in with plans of having it taken out later in the year. Then plans for that fell through for over a decade.

 

I'll be rinsing with salt water when I start eating again, although right now all I've had is juice and water for the last 40hrs! Still not too hungry so trying to hold out a bit longer for the swelling to continue going down. I have pudding to start in on when I'm ready for it. And some yogurt. When I start in on those I'll have to rinse.

 

I have stitches in my mouth as well, but I'm not going to need to go get those removed. They'll dissolve on their own over the next couple of weeks or something.

 

In my case, the specialist told me usually if a man reaches his 40's (I'm not in my 40's yet tho!) without the wisdom teeth causing problems, then he recommends leaving them in. I'm only in my mid-30's and while it can be uncomfortable having the tooth in, the only time it caused problems was if the gums swelled up. He told me, based on the xray images, that I had probably a 1% chance of not having problems with that tooth in the next 10 years. So given his opinion of the situation and my own intuition of how that tooth will likely cause problems and discomfort, I decided to go ahead and get it removed asap while I'm younger and more likely to bounce back from the ordeal quickly.

 

At least it's done and over with, and hopefully I don't have any more problems of this nature in the future. I do have some cavities that need fixing up, but compared to this, those should be fairly easy to deal with... hopefully next year so I can boost my medical coverage to actually cover them.
