On December 17, 2010, Disney will release Tron: Legacy.

Yes... I'm looking forward to this. :D

I'm posting about it now, because Disney just released a teaser poster, and a couple of publicity stills.

And so you don't have to dig them up elsewhere, and because I like to laugh in the face of "cease and desist" orders, and because I need an excuse to pull my blog back off of "Page 2"... here are the pics:

(Dude... you're in a big-budget movie now. Buy some new pants.)

And check out the awesome nerdwear:

I'm hoping they get Tron: Legacy right. I'm a little concerned that the look of the characters (so far) seems a little too real-world and slick. But once they get all of the post-production work done, we'll get to see what the movie really looks like. Besides, what really matters in a movie like this is the special effects video game references plot.

Oh, and by the way... Jeff Bridges has a very cool website. It's quite unlike anything I've seen other celebrities do (and makes me more than a little ashamed that I'm not drawing nearly as much as he is). Scroll down this page for his Tron links. (He even linked to the Tron Reboot parodies on YouTube.)

And in completely unrelated news, except that it has to do with a celebrity linking to a YouTube parody of themselves...

Recent Grammy Nominee "Weird Al" Yankovic put up a link on his webpage to this guy, who does a spot-on impression of Al:

I'm also pretty excited about the movie. While at the same time being a bit nervous that they're going to screw it up somehow. Will be keeping my eyes on it, for sure.

I have no idea what to expect. I just hope to see something I've never seen before. Faitfhul to the look of the first film, but as far beyond it as computers themselves have advanced.

Incidentally, I just noticed something odd about the blogs. If I look at this entry using the link from the community forum, the line about "Buy some new pants" (which was added after the initial publishing) doesn't show up.

Another pic (courtesy of Tron-Sector, who probably have no idea I'm posting this):

Disney's definitely playing off the light cycles for their early marketing. Of course, that's the obvious choice since that's such an identifiable image, and so unique to Tron. I've seen it referenced in commercials, music videos, and other places with increasing frequency lately.

And another one...

After the effect in Avatar, Disney has a lot to try and live up to with Tron: Legacy. Fortunately, they still have nearly 11 months to work on post-production. Also, they have a benchmark to shoot for now, in terms of how successful a 3-D film can be. So there's a lot at stake now, rather than this "just" being a sequel to an old video game movie mostly enjoyed by a bunch of computer nerds (raises hand).
