Mii and the Wii - 6 / 2009

Hi there!

I'm still on a dry spell, again I only managed buying two Wii games since the last report. At least my shopping list didn't grow anymore either. And the year should end better again, with christmas just around the corner :)

The list of games I'm done with: Wii Sports, Zelda TP, Excite Truck, Metal Slug Anthology, Geometry Wars, Bully , Eledees, Zack & Wiki , SMG, Death Jr., Battalion Wars 2, Disaster , MP 3 , Fire Emblem , Boom Blox, de Blob, Opoona, Lego Indiana Jones, Okami, No More Heros , MadWorld, Tunguska, Deadly Creatures, Force Unleashed, Wario Land, RE4, RE:UC, Tenchu 4, Another Code , Conduit

New entries in my Wii collection:

Anno (Dawn of Discovery) => I assisted my wife about halfway through the campaign, but we both lost interest in this pretty fast.

Cursed Mountain => I've already been raving about this one in the Wii Forum. In short, it's another must have in my book. A very high quality, spooky adventure game, with a gripping storyline and a very unique setting. Top game all around!

Metroid Prime Trilogy => Well, I _know_ it's already hidden in the house somewhere... :D

==========================================

My current shopping list:

Little Kings Story => Such a lovely gem, I definitely must have this!

Overlord Dark Legend => A Pikmin for goths, yay! :D

Mini Ninjas => The best Ninja game ever? At least on Wii I bet!

Muramasa The Demon Blade => Such a beautiful art direction in this one, I hope the gameplay follows along.

Rabbids Go Home! => I know it's just an average game underneath, but the kids love them rabbids ;)

Dead Space Extraction => Since Umbrella Chronicles already broke the ice, why not?

Darkside Chronicles => Since Umbrella Chronicles already broke the ice, why not?

Firefighter => Always giving the underdog a chance!

==========================================

My future Hopelist:

Monster Hunter 3 => Well, I'm usually no fan of Online games, but maybe this one changes everything?

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom => Not my favourite genre, but so totally over the top and from Capcom? I'll have a look!

Fragile => I love the setting and the art style and the atmosphere and it is confirmed for Europe! Yay! :D

Samurai Heroes 3 => Hehe, Thank heavens Capcom Japan starts delivering again, putting an end to all the trash releases that the hopeless American office was cranking out...

Silent Hill => Most likely too scary for me, but I'm interested. Nurse! :D

Tales of Graces => Being a mothership title of a major series, this should finally end the RPG draught on the Wii, shouldn't it?

Greetings,

Manuel

In a move that dramatically improves the overall quality of my collection, I traded in a couple of suckers (see above) at gamestop, replacing them with Dead Space and Muramasa. I still had to pay 26€ but it didn't feel like a rip off, considering all the trash I got rid off ;)

Oh dear! All the excessive christmas gaming has killed my Wiis DVD drive!

I'm buying a SD card for it today, so I can backup my game saves before sending it in for repairs...

Many good news here! My Wii actually didn't need repairs, it was just suffering from getting too much heat from the sat-receiver! :)

And today I traded in another 4 older games for Tasunoko vs. Capcom and on top of that I found a shop selling Little King's Story NIB for €20.-! :D

The bad news is that I totally cleared my shopping list now (I'm getting Overlord for my birthday next week). Let's hope that there's some more good games coming rather soon, else I'll need getting a PS3 a lot earlier than planned :ponder:

A PS3 is a great buy if some games in the existing catalog are on your "gotta have" list AND you want to use it as a Blu-Ray player AND you have a nice 1080p HDTV to play it on.

Don't get me wrong. I love my PS3. It makes a dang good Blu-Ray/DVD player, especially since I don't have a home theater style audio setup. And it's not doing too bad a job playing HD television I record using MythTV. But as a pure games console or pure Blu-Ray player I'm not sure I can unequivocally recommend it.

Yes, it's a very tough descission. I don't have the TV, I've not much interest in Blu-Rays and I'm not even sure I like much of the games library :ponder:

It seems a major portion of the HD library is either first or third person kill-o-zap multiplayer shooters. Most of them seem so generic and boring, I really wonder why they get so high Metacscores. E.g. three weeks ago I was watching a friend play Borderlands for half an hour and almost fell asleep :)

Even many of the games that manage to strike my interest still seem to play just like every other game, making a difference only in the cutscenes. E.g. I'm sure I'd love the scenario and atmosphere of Dead Space, Uncharted, RE5, Bioshock or Fallout, but when watching the reviews at gametrailers it seems as if there's just two different generic shooter templates underneath every surface.

Thanks for the fair warning, but I'm such a games addict, I have no other choice :D

It seems I can get a dozen good 2006-2008 PS3 games very cheap as the PS3 has a pretty good platinum selection already, so these should keep me busy while waiting for the next wave of Wii games :D
