Music to my ears
Or rather...for my ears. Whenever I get bored, I decide to either compose a new song or just record myself "jamming" solo on my keyboard. Most of the stuff I record is improv stuff and most tracks last about a half-hour. Then I go back and listen to them from time to time. Why do this? Because nobody else does. I only have four songs in my collection that last a half-hour or longer: Dazed and Confused by Led Zeppelin, Mountain Jam by the Allman Bros. Band, Karn Evil 9 (live) by ELP, and 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence by Dream Theater. I once played my keyboard constantly for 90 minutes, but in order for that to be on CD, I'd have to split it up into two parts. I read a long time ago that they were going to have single CDs that can hold up to 13 hours of music. That would be really cool because I could put a whole bunch of music onto one CD. But that never did happen, though. I also figure out how to play a few songs by ear and then do really long versions of them with other stuff mixed in (like eerie sounds, Tangerine-Dream-type stuff, etc.) The version of Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye I did in January lasts a good half-hour. Last night, I started on a new "album", this time venturing into other instruments. There was an acoustic guitar in the pantry, so I decided to use it. After 13 minutes, my fingers started to hurt, and was done after almost 26 minutes with it. Take into account that I don't even know how to play the guitar in the first place, and you've got some pretty strange, unusual music. I'd also like to get a Jew's harp and somehow work that into something. I also took up (and quit) my piano lessons when I was a kid, so that's how I know how to play the keyboard/piano. My keyboard has no A5 key, so I've been thinking of buying a new one, but they cost about $100-150 for a new one. I've had the same one since the mid-80's, so I think it's time for a new one. Music has always been a passion of mine, whether I'm making it or listening to it.
