1. Always On - What if my PC isn't connected to the Internet, Valve?2. Automatic Updates - If it's broke, then I'll get the patch (it's given me time to write this, but I'd rather be playing CS Source).3. Random Crashes - Yep. It's fucked.4. Pop-Ups - I don't give a shit about Super Flying Space Ninjas, even if it is using the HL2 engine.5. Random Crashes - Fucked, again.

1. It really isn't a problem - you can still play if you're not connected. I used to play HL2 offline all the time (dial-up hell). Unless you want to play online multiplayer, but then your PC isn't connected to the internet, is it? Seriously, it's a non-issue. If for whatever reason you don't want to have Steam connect while you're on broadband, just disable the network connection temporarily.

2. I'm not sure why convenience is a bad thing. It also keeps everyone on a level playing field to help curb OMG CH34TERZ!!!

3 & 5. Can't say I've ever experienced random crashes. But that's just me.

4. OK, I'll give you that one :x

You are not the only one. I'm not ever going to play anything delivered via steam or steam like tech.

ID has it right. Ship the game, do what you can to limit cheats & piracy and encourage users to get into the game proper. (mods, etc...)

Linking all the users together with the developer is a mistake.

So I miss out on a bunch of games. Would have missed out anyway as there is just no time to play them all.
