It's that time of the year--It's time for some Castlevania!
So everyone, it's nearing Halloween... What does that mean for you? Perhaps fall colors, cooler weather and over-indulging on candy, I suppose? Well, for me, it means jamming out on some Castlevania! Seriously, Halloween and Castlevania just seem to go hand-in-hand.
I usually play a CV game or two around this time of the year. Nothing in particular, just anything from the original NES game to the most modern stuff on PS2 and XBOX. This season however, it looks like I'm playing more than I usually do. For starters, I picked up a Game Boy Advance SP last week, and with that, I snagged Circle of the Moon (I am currently already at the final boss as I write this). Second, I picked up the new Castlevania: Lords of Shadow for the XBOX 360. I am only about a third of the way through the game, and while it seems to not have much in common with any Castlevania game prior to it, I am enjoying it. Lastly, I picked up Castlevania Harmony of Despair on XBOX Live Arcade a few weeks back and didn't get to playing it until this past weekend. I'm finding myself thoroughly enjoying it. Anways, it's only the first week of October and I'm off to a good start..
The other night I was browsing eBay with the hopes of purchasing a system. Any system. Something to expand the collection, and something I can do a video of, that's all (I had some PayPal funds ready to go, so I figured why not?). Anyways, after hours of looking and finding nothing (complete) at decent prices, I bit the bullet and decided to blow my cash on some games instead. Games that are less common, possibly only imports, I thought to myself. Games I would actually want to play. Not a half-bad idea, the more I thought about it. Anyways, I ended up snagging a few good ones.
The first of two I'm going to name here (for relevance!) is Dracula X: Nocturne in the Moonlight for the Sega Saturn. I actually used to own this one, and it was actually the first import game I ever bought. I also purchased it on Halloween weekend the year of (or a year or so after) its original release. While this version of Symphony of the Night lacks some polish of the original PlayStation release, the added areas, music, and items in this one more than make up for it. I'm totally looking forward to playing this one again, and should be able to run through it in a night or two.
The second one I bought is Akumajo Dracula for the Super Famicom. This is the Japanese version of Super Castlevania IV, one of my favorite SNES and Castlevania games in general. I've heard about the US version having edits, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what these differences are. This one is also complete, so it's definitely a nice one to add to the collection.
Talk about some Castlevania goodness!
