Vinyl stuff
Why does it always seem to be that the length they say a song is is always longer than it actually is? For instance, the record sleeve says 11:24 but in actuality it's only 10:56. Why is it off by 20 (or more) seconds? Is it because my record player is going 34 RPM, or something else? Anyway, I got a record that I thought would be interesting, turns out to be the case. Renaissance's self-titled debut album from 1969. If you like early prog rock with a lot of piano, you'll like this. I also got Todd Rundgren's "Initiation", which has a 35-minute-long song on one side. It has an interesting warning since it has over an hour's worth of music on it about the record breaking if it's used with an old needle. Also, Frank Zappa's "Hot Rats" was there, but I didn't get it because it was $25! I wonder why the CD version of "The Gumbo Variations" is longer, it runs 16 minutes, while the vinyl is almost 13. Anyway, Renaissance will go well with my Blood Sweat and Tears album. I only have to play a record once because I have a record player that records records to MP3s so I can listen to them on my computer when I'm done. Only trouble is, the record player has no speakers. I really need to get some. They have a red and white cords to plug in, but I've got no place to plug them in. Do speakers have red and white holes now? I don't remember that being the case with my mom's or grandparent's record players.
