Playing Dynamite Düx (C64)
Hi there!
After Action Fighter we get yet another conversion of a Sega Arcade from Core Design:

Basically most of what I said about Action Fighter is true for Dynamite Düx as well: Core Design delivered a throughout solid C64 conversion here, that's playable and backed by good enough graphics graphics and music, so that fans of the Arcade got what they were paying for.
If you're not a die hard fan of the arcade, you're getting a strangely themed shoot'em up, with a few elements of a brawler. You're in control of a Duck, that's running and jumping through half a dozen side-scrolling levels.
At the start all you can do is either punch the various enemies with a standard punch, or hold the fire button a little longer for a stronger power punch. Usually within a few steps you'll pick up a weapon though. There's a wide variety of ranged weapons: Throwable rocks, bombs, guns, rocket launchers, even a flame thrower.
The levels are packed with a lot of different enemies of all sizes and each level usually has a middle- and an endboss. Those battles are very hard, albeit mostly due to the somewhat shady collision detection in these scenes.
With save-states the game is doable and after the final boss you get a little happy ending screen:

Some future day the "Playing..." series may see a more original game from Core Design in the form of "Impossamole", but first it'll continue with something else.
Greetings,
Manuel
