Maybe I should just give up...

OK, I'm done. I've had it. If everyone thinks my games suck, then I simply won't make them any more. No use wasting Al's server space with stupid games nobody enjoys. And if everyone thinks I suck, then maybe I should just put a gun to my head and pull the trigger like I've been wanting to do ever since I was about 13 years old. Now I know many of you will ask "well, how come you didn't do that sooner?" Well, there are stupid, foolish people like my family (and apparently doctors, whom I think ACTUALLY would care less whether I shot myself or not, and are just saying things their textbooks tell them to.) who have not yet seen the light and actually WANT me around. I've been on this forum for almost 5 years now, and apparently, many of you think that I'm some weirdo fool troll guy or something that makes stupid games. I wish I could just buy a gun through the internet and get it in the mail so I don't have to tell my stupid family who wants me to keep on living (and suffering), just get it in the mail and end it all. Crazy? Of course I'm crazy, I bet I'm the only person on these boards that has actually been in some sort of a mental hospital. You know, they're crazy too, they let me out! I wish shrinks and stuff would ENCOURAGE guys like me who have no life whatsoever that their lives are meaningless and the scope of the whole world would care less if I was around or not. [/rant]

We had a family friend who couldn't handle hearing the truth. For example, if she burned the hamburgers and someone mentioned it, she'd get upset and scream that she'd never cook again. It was drama queen bullshit. The truth is the truth. If you burn the hamburgers, ignoring it isn't going to make it go away and you can't learn anything if you refuse to see that you keep burning the hamburgers. If you keep burning the hamburgers, you need to pull your head out of your ass, try to do better next time, and stop being a touchy baby. People have to eat those hamburgers. It has nothing to do with your ego or your delusions. Just shut up, learn your lesson, and you might end up making the best damn hamburgers that anyone ever ate.

If a person has a passion for making Atari 2600 games that are worth playing, he'll keep working at it until his games are as close to Activision or Imagic quality as possible. His games may not be as good as he hoped, but at least he won't be serving up 'burned hamburgers' because he won't be caught up in a delusional fog. He can see the truth. He can see the difference between crap and quality. He knows that 'good enough' isn't good enough. He'll go that extra mile to make sure his 'hamburgers' are as delicious as possible since he knows it's not all about him, it's about the people he's serving. He wants them to enjoy themselves and not have to choke down those 'burned burgers.'

If even a hint of criticism makes a person suicidal, it seems like the first step is to remove his head from his ass. Once his head is removed and cleaned up, he'll be able to look around through the lingering fecal fog and start to see how things really are. He can finally discover that the purpose of life is to serve others, create, and express himself, not to grasp for fame and glory just to feed his ego. Once the fog clears and he finds a job/career/hobby/charity he has a hunger for, he can passionately serve others through that medium. Sometimes fame and glory can be a side-effect of a job well done, but the reason for doing that job will always be self-expression mixed with serving others in some way.

My younger brother took his life in 1994. If you can, think back to '94. Think of all of the things which have occurred in the world of technology since then. (Or just see the entries in Wikipedia, which didn't exist in '94.) Everything he missed (including becoming an uncle) because he wouldn't seek help to improve his hope for the future.

You have talent as a programmer. I don't have half the talent you do. If you think your life is meaningless then perhaps you should find meaning for it. You could try volunteering or helping others. There is a reason you are here, and I don't think that reason is to program games.
