A Ton of Notes
So I went to Borders and got a SpongeBob comic book. I hadn't known they started making something like that, I got issue 2 and there was no issue 1, so now I have to track issue 1 down. Issue 3 is coming out in June (says issue 2). Then I went to "Music, Music!" (a local music store.) I was looking for Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" sheet music, but instead ended up buying Dream Theater's "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" sheet music. Yes, there's a sheet music book for it, it's over 120 pages long. I'm not converting every page to MIDI, though, just the two longest songs: "A Nightmare To Remember" and, if I'm not already sequenced out, "The Count of Tuscany." You can hear and upload the latest MIDI here. Right now I've done just about the first two pages, and the intro starts at 0:27, with 27 seconds of thunderstorms at the beginning. Right now, I'm at the 1:42 mark, after the first 90 minutes or so furiously putting in notes, checking and rechecking to see if it sounds good. So yeah, I have a ton of work ahead of me, but at least it's enjoyable. The sheet music has instructions on what instruments to put in, etc., what time you should be at in certain places, it's like it was almost made for people to make MIDIs out of the music. The first time I saw the book was on Dream Theater's website and I said "I want that!" and I thought I never was going to be able to find it, but I did.
